With its vaulted bedroom overlooking the semi-wild garden, and its book-lined lounge opening onto a covered patio and sunny terrace, Chez David is made for an autumn escape. Although we’re in the heart of a typical Provençal village (with bakery, bar and restaurant)—and only two minutes from Lourmarin and Cucuron—the flat is private thanks to its abundant greenery. Chez David is unique: a home, not a hotel, a space designed to feel intimate and cosy, yet with plenty of autumn sunlight. The space At a glance... If you love places with soul — a touch of the old, a splash of the new — you’ll feel at home at Chez David. This intimate apartment for two sits in a leafy corner of Vaugines, a typical Provençal village just minutes from Lourmarin (5km) and Cucuron (3km) and not far from Aix en Provence and Avignon. Our gîte appeals to guests seeking charm, comfort and outdoor living: walking, cycling, horse riding… or simply enjoying a glass of wine in the village square, four minutes away. A bit more detail Chez David is full of character. The vaulted bedroom has a double bed, en suite shower (no bath) and a window seat overlooking the garden path. The lounge and small kitchen open directly onto the terrace and covered patio. You park just outside the garden gate, then walk up a few steps through a partly walled, wild garden with fig and olive trees. Inside, a few more steps lead to the bedroom. Through the passageway is the lounge with its built in kitchen (two induction hobs, microwave, fridge, utensils), dining table, bookcases and two sofas. The covered patio faces south; the secluded terrace faces east — perfect for morning coffee. The garden is natural and informal, especially lovely in spring and autumn, with hidden spots for eating and relaxing. A home, not a hotel This is an old Provençal house with charm, quirks and character. It does not offer every modern convenience (there’s no dishwasher, for example, and no fancy automatic coffee machine or television although, of course, there is high-speed internet access) — but it is warm, cosy, loved and lived in. If you prefer sleek, hotel style luxury with all mod cons, then this may not be the right fit. If you enjoy authentic spaces with personality, you’ll love Chez David. We do! The Luberon Nearby: Lourmarin (5–10 min), Cucuron (5 min), Étang de la Bonde (10 min), Bonnieux, Ansouis, Ménerbes (20–25 min), plus Provençal markets, wineries and restaurants. The area is ideal for cycling, mountain biking, hiking and reconnecting with nature — or simply relaxing between visits to Aix, Avignon, Marseille or Cassis. Vaugines: our village A peaceful hamlet between Cucuron and Lourmarin, surrounded by vineyards and backed by the Luberon hills. The village has a shop bakery, a bar serving pizzas and light meals, and an excellent restaurant — all within three minutes of the gîte. Small pets We welcome small, well behaved dogs with a few respectful guidelines: • No pets on sofas or bedding • Pets must not be left alone in the house • Owners must clean up after their pets Sir Bobby (our cocker spaniel) is friendly and happy to say hello. We can recommend local walks and a nearby vet. PLEASE NOTE Because this is an old Provençal house with several steps, it is not suitable for guests with mobility issues, babies or young children. No smoking is allowed anywhere on the property, including the patio terrace and garden. Guest access The garden flat forms part of a larger house (which can also be let) but is also independent from it. All the spaces, and access through the garden, is exclusive to guests staying in the flat - it is very private and intimate. Other things to note CHEZ DAVID: A HOME AND NOT A HOTEL We love our garden flat, and it's part of our home - we hope you will love it too, and take as much care of it as we do! That's really important to us. Smoking is not allowed anywhere in the accommodation itself, the garden or terraces. This is non-negotiable for insurance and health reasons, not to mention the risk of fire in these hot summer months. SMALL PETS We're pet lovers AND proud house-owners, and this is what works for us: Your pet is not allowed on our three (brand new) sofas or (brand new) bedding! Your dog or cat cannot be left in the house by themselves. The owner clears up any mess! These are our "rules". We hope you think they're fair. If not, we will not be able to accept your pet. Sorry. But if you are happy, then we have plenty of sticks and balls for your dog to play with in the garden! If your dog (or cat) gets on with other dogs, we can introduce him to our cocker, Sir Bobby (who, incidentally, is never allowed on our beds or sofas). We can show you the best walks around the village (and where the poo bags are)! We can recommend the best vet in town, if there's a problem. And don't forget to bring your cat/dog bowls!
