Guest access Feel free to use the kitchen and all implements and please don't leave any of your stuff in the shared spaces, in other words, your kitchen tools, cleaning agents, leaving your laptop out, etc. You may cook with your own favorite pot for example but please store it in your room. If there is something lacking in kitchen tools please let me know and perhaps I can purchase something new. It's fine to move your bedroom furniture around but please ask for help to avoid tearing the vinyl flooring. Please don't hang wet towels on the back of chairs or shake powder all over the bedroom rug. If you would like something removed from your room, please mention it to me so I can store it downstairs safely. If you have a spill or breakage, don't worry, just let me know right away so I can address it. (If I'm not home, please call me.) You will have access to reliable wireless. Relax in the living room (mindful of sharing access) by plugging your computer in to the big screen TV or sit out in the yard. The thermostat is programmed to 68 when folks are not at work, and 65 or 64 at night, downstairs, depending on outdoor temps; upstairs is 67 or 68. During the day when folks are at work, it's typically set to 65 , but feel free to restore it to 68 if you're home during the day. There's a washer/drier in the basement--please let me show you how to use them first--and use my detergent or your own low suds type for your use if you like. A hybrid bike and helmet is also available. During your stay I work fifteen minutes away Wed-Sunday; if I can't meet you on arrival, I'll leave the key for you. Feel free to speak with me, call, or text any time with any questions or concerns. I'm always interested to meet guests but good at giving you your space, too. Other things to note Description: Large, sunny room w/sitting/work area 2nd floor. Dbl bed, easy chair+work chair if prefer, coffee table, 3 windows, dresser+2 closets, bath w/shower stall, to share w/host. Share kitchen w/host+sometimes 1 other. Bedding+towels provided. Safe, tree-lined area walking distance to grocery +eateries. Scenic river towns Nyack+Piermont a brief bus ride away; borrow a bike to ride to Tallman State Park+pool. No dogs/cats. Prefer folks that work/study at least 3 dys/wk onsite but can discuss. If you are bringing a car: We have a long but one-lane driveway, so we may want to move cars around if you need to be on the outside in the morning. Street parking is also okay but not in the winter. No big parties pls but feel free to have friends over and use the shared spaces for dinner or hanging out. No overnight guests but if you are long term and want to have a friend/family visit for up to a week we can discuss. Please me show you how the newish machine works, and purchase your own low-suds soap or use mine. My boyfriend Mike may stay over once a week and I may be away from the house one or two nights a week. Please know we take an old-fashioned (practical!) approach to use of utilities. The house does not have central air, so we use a combo of open windows, fans, and closed blinds (during the sunny days) to cool the house. Your window AC unit is ideally used only on hot nights or during the weekend on very hot days. In the daytime if you are renting upstairs, your door needs to be left open during the day (with windows open on moderate temp days) to assure for cross-ventilation--this keeps the upstairs comfortable. In the winter, the house is at 68, then down to 65 during the night, which people find comfortable (goose down comforters are supplied.) Guests should clean up after themselves (wash dishes, put them away, wipe the areas where you prepped food). Please wash your bedding minimum every two weeks. If you are here more than one month, you should vacuum and dust once in a while and maintain and clean the bathroom. It's an old house and these small accommodations go a long way to keeping the space nice and comfy! If you are interested in long term, please book short-term to start to see if the place is right for you. Please let me know if there is anything you need, don't be shy!
