A charming Grade B listed, Arts and Crafts historic cottage situated in the heart of the quaint village of Doune, close to the River Teith and Doune Castle, the setting of Monty Python's Holy Grail, and more recently Outlander and Game of Thrones. It has been thoughtfully furnished and decorated to a high standard, retaining original features such as the kitchen range with its cosy fire and lounge with original fireplace and added wood burner. The space Designed by local architect Thomas Maclaren, 1-11 George Street were the only buildings designed by Thomas Maclaren in Scotland before his career took him to Denver Colorado in the United States where he later gained citizenship. Particular to the architecture and style of Maclaren include: “two-storey asymmetrical terrace stepped infall of ground; in wilful Art Nouveau manner ,harled red sandstone dressings, round headed porches with recessed doors, 1/2 diamond 2 storey windows linked by pentice roof over projecting entrances and porches, turret's with decorative dates, corbelled and gabled angled bays, crowstepped gables and slate roofs”. Located minutes from Doune Castle the setting of Monty Python's Holy Grail, and more recently Outlander and Game of Thrones. In Game of Thrones a variety of locations were used to create Winterfell, however Doune Castle was the first, it was also used for exterior shots and the great feast held when Robert Baratheon arrived in the pilot episode. In respect of Outlander it was chosen as the main outdoor location for the show, standing in for the fictional castle Leoch at the time of the Jacobite Rebellion. Also, approximately 8 miles nearby is the imposing Stirling Castle and the Wallace Monument. Most recently the Stirlingshire area is being used to shoot scenes in the film Outlaw, which will feature Star Trek star Chris Pine, the film will tell the story of Robert the Bruce and is expected to be released on Netflix in 2018.
