Description
Our bungalow is a modern attachment (originally the garage!) to a 1926 suburban villa designed by William Beresford Inglis, Glasgow School of Art student from 1903-5 during the Macintosh period, and the architect of the Beresford Hotel - the iconic art deco 'skyscraper' on Sauchiehall Street and city cinemas. Situated in an elegant leafy suburb with excellent transport links (15 mins walk+15mins train) into downtown Glasgow. Bearsden village is ~10 mins walk to cafes, shops, bars and eateries. The space The bungalow, a very cute and cosy "granny flat", was refurbished in 2014 from the garage plus a little extra, and is attached to the original villa which is an occupied family home. It has a modern, sparkling clean kitchen and bathroom, along with a bright living room (with TV) and a double bedroom. There is a smaller single bed bedroom/study and also a double sofa bed in the living room area. The flat is thus ideal for a couple and small family, but less suitable for larger groups of adults. The private patio garden with table and chairs is accessed through sliding doors, south facing and enveloped in mature trees and shrubs. Ask us for birdseed if you want to enjoy visitors to the feeders. Much of Bearsden, including this listing, is on the Glasgow Airport flight path: whilst most people are not unduly affected by overhead noise, guests have rarely reported that it affects their peacefulness, especially when outside. Guest access The flat is self-contained with it's own entrance on the shared driveway. Please tuck your car into the paved area in front of the flat so we can get out of the driveway too. There is an internal door which links to the main house, but it is locked shut, and won't be in use during your stay. There is also a small private patio garden area which is just for your house, and a larger garden which is connected to our house, but feel free to have a wander! Other things to note Guests interested in art nouveau/deco architecture are welcome to see the main family house (provided we are in and have tidied up!). We can show you the original 1920's canopy bath - very like the one at Hill House in Helensburgh - and probably the only one from that period left in Bearsden. Other period features mark the transition from elaborate Victorian ornate design to cleaner Macintosh-style lines.
