Guest access Guests have access to their apartment through a private entrance on their private patio facing the pond. The entrance is lower than the driveway and can be navigated by grass or the steps leading to their door. They also have anytime access to the adjacent storage room, garage, covered porch and yard, although these are shared areas with other occupants of the house. Guests will be invited into the main house by one of the tenants and should not just freely use the basement stairs without communicating with the upstairs tenants, except in an emergency. Laundry use is included but as the machines are in the main kitchen, communication of timing with other tenants is paramount, as well as responsible recuperation of laundry from the area so others can easily use it. Guests are invited to use the pond chairs and hammock, exercise equipment, grill and back patio, but should communicate use of the grill and patio tables if they are having company over, as tenants of the main house have priority, although the space is generally available most days so is a matter of politeness rather than a scramble to reserve the space. Guests can also access the bike path by walking through the backyard on stone steps. Other things to note A few other thoughts to make this stay as easy as can be! SHARED PATIO, GRILL & EXERCISE EQUIPMENT Guest is welcome to use shared exercise equipment, hammock, lawn blanket, patio furniture, etc. but must clean / put these away properly after use. The patio tables often need wiping off and can be done with a rag or spray cleaner, or if needed the adjacent hose. Landlord will do their best to always have gas in the grill, but if you use it more than occasionally, please take responsibility to refill it on your own. There are two stickers on the sides of the canister to indicate the gas level -- please attend to these and plan accordingly! SHARED PROPERTY & PARKING As this is a shared property, gathering of various sizes take place in the yard, thus the guest should not be surprised to see others walking past their door, but also rest assured no one can see in the apartment door in daytime due to the light angle. Please be courteous to visitors in the yard, and know you might be asked to park on the street to accommodate gathering and handicapped people. Otherwise, driveway parking is on a first-come basis with the landlady parking to the right most days and in the garage under certain conditions. Street parking is easy, but parking on the non-mailbox side of the driveway is preferred to not block the mail person or crowd the opposite neighbor's driveway. DIRTY / MUDDY SHOES & BIKES Due to the nature of the property and regional activities, our shoes are often muddy or carrying gritty soil. Guests are asked to diligently wipe their feet and remove dirty shoes at the building entrances, and to clean muddy shoes and bike tires prior to entering the garage. Guests are welcome to use hoses and tools in the garage to clean dirty shoes and leave them outside the door or in the garage as well. A bike is available for the guest's occasional use although is often used by the landlord. Guest is required to lock it every time it is taken out of the garage with the provided lock and to never loan it to another person without landlord's approval. Guest is responsible for cost of damage or loss of bike. SUMP PUMP A sump pump is located in the apartment to pump water from below the house and makes brief sounds as it operates. Guests insist they get used to this sound quickly and that it does not disturb their sleep. In the unlikely occasion that the sump pump stops working, a high-pitched alarm is located inside the sump pump well and will sound if water rises too high, although to date this has never happened. In the unlikely event of this alarm sounding, it is the duty of the guest to inform and assist the landlord, manager or emergency plumber immediately. GUEST'S ASSISTANCE A list of best practices and guidelines are in the House Rules section of this listing -- they are intended to facilitate the stay of the guest by elaborating on care and use of the house and property amenities, but are part of the tenancy agreement. Guests are asked to participate in assisting with the property in small ways such as placing trash and recycling on the curb Sunday night, or assisting with any basic tasks such as moving the grill, refilling grill gas, basic repairs, basic yard tasks or clipping tree branches if needed. Overall, this is a friendly, supportive community and guests' light participation in keeping it running efficiently is expected, while heavy yard work such as mowing or large plant maintenance is welcome, but not expected.
