The Red House, Pigeon Bay

The Red House is a light, tranquil sanctuary in an isolated and peaceful bay. The house is warm, private, comfortable and will provide a wonderful place for families and friends to relax. Located on an organic farm, surrounded by native trees and teaming with birdlife. This truly beautiful "nature reserve" looks out to Pigeon Bay. Enjoy walking down to the bay for a swim or wander through the forest or hills on the property, or sit back and admire the view out to the headlands from the couch. The space The house is open plan with a bedroom space with a double and single bed with a view of the bay. There is a loft with a double mattress and stairs to access the loft. Please take care with children on the stairs and note the loft is not suitable for young children to sleep in. Linen is provided. The house has a lovely light warm living room with wonderful views. The log burner heats the house very well and firewood is provided. Also a fully equipped kitchen and fridge. There is a clawfoot tub/shower with plenty of hot water. The toilet is composting, outside up a small staircase. It isn't suitable for the elderly or disabled people unfortunately. Spare mattresses available for extras. Feel free to enquire about longer stays or late checkouts. Guest access Guests have the whole house to themselves in a private, picturesque setting. May also explore the orchards and property, whilst respecting the privacy of other guests and residents. Parking is best just in front of the house, or if its too wet in winter, please park just above the red house on the shingle. Please don't block the driveway at any time. Other things to note Pigeon bay is quite remote. It's a good idea to do your shopping in Christchurch before you come. Closest cafes and shops are Akaroa which is half an hour. Nice to visit and loads of tourist activities such as swimming with dolphins. Lovely walks in Pigeon Bay, check the DOC website for information on the Pigeon Bay walkway, Montgomery Spur Track and Hays reserve. Relax, swim, fish, bird watch and wander through our orchard and forest tracks.
