Description

Fern is a sanctuary to escape, disconnect & rejuvenate. On the banks of the Tyenna River, this luxurious 100-year-old cottage is a nature lover’s paradise. Soak in the huge outdoor bath, lounge by the open fire & relax to the sounds of the forest. Whether visiting the area to hike, mountain bike, fish, cold water plunge or simply enjoy the rainforest and widlife, the most difficult part about Fern is having to leave. Just 10 mins drive from Mt Field National Park and 9 mins from Maydena. The space Whether visiting as a family or group of friends, Fern is a space created for true relaxation. Lounge by a crackling open fire, soak in the large outdoor bath, take a stroll along the river, enjoy an icy dip, forest bathe or catch up on your favourite movies on the full wall movie projector screen. You will have exclusive, private access to this property which is yours to explore and enjoy. Two outdoor dining areas catch sun in both the morning and evening, while an outdoor firepit area is the perfect space for evening relaxation, star-gazing and Aurora spotting. We supply plenty of wood for the duration of your stay. While the natural wonderland of Mount Field is only 10 minutes drive away, walks can be taken right from the back door – the Marriott Falls trailhead (3 hours return) is just down the road. While Fern is the perfect place for a digital detox (we highly recommend turning on your out of office auto-reply) good mobile phone service is available via most major networks and wifi is also available within the house. In addition, the projector screen is connected to a range of streaming services for you to enjoy. The second last house on a quiet country lane, Fern is surrounded ancient forest. From your comfortable bed, listen to the sound of glacial water rushing past – on the lower half of this sprawling one acre block you will find the Tyenna River, which flows freely all year round. This river is home to some of the largest trout in Tasmania and is a famous fly fishing water, dotted both cool rockpools and deeper holes perfect for a dip (even in winter if you subscribe to the benefits of cold water therapy). Fern is located just before the Tyenna River's junction with the Humboldt River, which delivers some of the cleanest water in the world. At Fern, the sound of the river flowing past is interspersed with the call of the rainforest’s birdlife; large mobs of yellow tailed black cockatoos live in and frequent the area (visiting most days) while many species of birds can be heard. For wildlife spotters, platypus are very regularly seen in the river and wombats, Tasmanian devils, wallabies and pademelons are also aplenty in the local area. The latter will visit the yard most evenings, accustomed to occasionally enjoying our vegetable scraps. In the house, an exceptionally well-equipped and stylish galley kitchen has everything that you need to cook up a Tasmanian feast, while there are three dining spaces (two outdoors) in which to enjoy it. The pantry is well stocked with basics including beans a coffee machine for your morning brew. Three exceptionally comfortable bedrooms with luxurious linens provide spaces for rest that are worthy of a lie in. These bedrooms share an indoor bathroom with rainfall shower head, while there is an additional outdoor bath, shower and separate toilet. Guest access Guests have exclusive, private access to the entire property which adjoins the Tyenna River at the lower side of the block. Fern is the second-last house on a quiet country lane, which is just a few kilometres off the main road from Mt Field National Park to Maydena (Gordon River Road). Other things to note Accessibility – while this is a single-level homestead, there is a small step required to access the walk way to the front door. Doorways within the home are a standard 820mm wide and there are no grab rails in the bathroom. Location – on the edge of Tasmania’s Western Wilds, Tyenna is perfectly remote but still central to many of the area’s most popular attractions. Travel times are listed below; Mt Field National Park – 10 minutes Maydena Mountain Bike Park – 9 minutes Westerway – 17 minutes New Norfolk* – 45 minutes Strathgordon – 60 minutes Lake Pedder – 60 minutes Hobart – 80 minutes Lake St Clair – 2 hours Launceston – 3 hours Queenstown – 3 hours & 10 minutes *Please note, there are no supermarkets after New Norfolk, so we strongly recommend picking up your supplies there. Other things to note; Fern is a sacred space designed for relaxation, quiet contemplation and reconnection. While the kitchen and dining area is perfectly equipped for a sensational dinner, late night conversation and a board game or two, outside guests are not permitted to join you without prior approval (please feel free to get in touch if you have any questions in relation to this). There is also a strict no parties policy. Any damages incurred as a result of such events will need to be paid in full by the person responsible for the booking. Many thanks in advance for your understanding. Registration Details DA2024/158
