Description

A beautiful historic cottage set beside the river Yare, nr Loddon. Ideal for couples or a group of friends seeking a peaceful getaway. With no neighbours, you’ll have complete privacy in this tranquil haven. Enjoy front-row views of abundant birdlife, wildlife and the ever-changing river. (Not suitable for children due to deep water) The house offers 3 double bedrooms, a log burner & a spacious, secure garden. A separate annexe sleeps 2 with own private amenities. Dogs welcome for a fee. The space This spacious riverside cottage offers a truly unique retreat steeped in history and surrounded by natural beauty. Originally built as a sanctuary for monks, this former round wattle-and-daub structure has been transformed into a charming brick-and-mortar 18th Century cottage with modern comforts. Down a one mile ‘safari-style’ private driveway, the main house comprises of three double bedrooms: a king bed with an ensuite shower and toilet and two double bedrooms, sharing a bathroom and toilet. A cosy sitting room with a wood burner, TV & plenty of board games and books galore as well as a small music room with a piano! A dining room with Rayburn, and a well-equipped little kitchen (one in house and one in the annexe) make it perfect for relaxing stays. For additional guests, or those preferring ground-floor living, the annexe includes a small double bedroom, kitchenette, shower, and loo. Please note that it is a bit of a squeeze if you are 8 guests in the sitting room and pretty tight around the dining table too :) but each bedroom has space and is very comfortable! A large garden with BBQ and loads of private space to wander. We have our own veg and chickens, so you are most welcome to pick anything in season. Dogs (max 2) welcome but please add them to your ‘guests’ when booking as there is a small charge for additional cleaning. Also no dogs upstairs please! PLEASE NOTE: This isn’t a suitable place for children due to the proximity of the river which is very deep and fast flowing at times. The house is not ‘child friendly’ I’m afraid. Set by the tranquil River Yare, the cottage offers stunning wildlife views and is tucked away down a long farm track near the historic Hardley Windmill, ensuring total privacy. The market town of Loddon, with its shops, pubs, and cafes, is nearby, with the Norfolk coast just 25 minutes away. Parking is ample, with a standard 3-pin socket undercover available for EV charging. (Fast charging available in the centre of Loddon). For animal lovers, we have a horse and pony, goats, a pig, chickens, a couple of free-range sheep and some barn cats. Daily checks of animals are carried out throughout your stay, but upmost care is taken to ensure your privacy is respected with no early morning visits. A little further up, and across the river, the historic Cantley Sugar Factory operates (very quietly) from November to March, adding a fascinating art deco touch to this serene retreat. This is an exceptionally unique and special place aimed at giving you peace, fun and a little magic throughout your stay. Well behaved dogs are welcome but must be on leads (apart from the large fenced garden which our doggie guests are free to play) as we have many tempting free-range animals on site. Guest access While your privacy is fully respected, the owner or a colleague will have to access the property's outbuildings via a separate pathway DAILY to feed the outdoor cats, chickens and feed and check the owner’s two horses, pig and goats. Times to suit you and you will not be disturbed. There is also a public footpath nearby but again, this is not regularly used as it’s a long walk to get there. Other things to note Additional Information: If you are bringing dogs, please ensure you clean up after them and keep them on a lead outside of the fenced garden at ALL times. Please note, you must add your dog(s) to the booking if you are bringing them please. Additional charge applies. This is absolutely essential as the property is home to three friendly rescue farm cats (live in stables) chickens (in enclosure) and two horses. We also have two free-range sheep which are very special to us so if you feel your dogs could be a potential problem (eg: sight hounds who can jump fences or dogs that can't resist a good chase) then please don’t book as this place would be a bad fit - there's a lot of animal life & too many temptations. Chasing our animals could lead to very expensive vets bills and potential trauma so please don’t take the risk. Thank you for your understanding! Please be aware that the River Yare is deep and fast-flowing, so take extra care around the water. Guests are welcome to bring their own canoes, and I can provide two life jackets for your safety. Again I must absolutely stress, this property is not be a good fit or suitably safe for those with children.
