Description

Located in historic Bath, NC, the Pirates Wharf invites you to take a step out of the ordinary and find out why we believe life is better on the water. The Pirate's Wharf consists of 2 bedrooms, 2 full bathrooms, a fully equipped kitchen, a living area with TV w/ streaming options, wireless internet, and plenty of seating. The real treat is outside, where you'll find over 2000 SF of 10 foot wide covered porches, along with another 1000 SF of deck and dock space; all open for your relaxation. The space Historic Bath NC is a town steeped in history. Famous for being the first port and first incorporated town in North Carolina, it retains an old-world charm that allows visitors to step back in time while enjoying the modern conveniences of today. It is said that as soon as you cross the bridge over Bath Creek, something changes. Whether it is the sight of the waterfowl against the shore, the sailboats at anchor, the tall pines, the water stretching toward the Pamlico - it all invites you to step out of the ordinary into a quieter, simpler place. The same peaceful inlet that offered shelter to early Native Americans and settlers still welcomes people today. Enjoy a stay at the Pirate's Wharf on Bath Creek and experience this tranquil setting firsthand. Guest access The owners of this fine estate primarily preside in central NC; the family visits often in the summers when the kids can enjoy waterskiing and wakeboarding. For the majority of each year, the property is maintained by (2) local Co-Hosts that see to all of your arrival and experience needs. Guests have a private entrance into the 2 bedroom 2 bath villa, all operated on the first floor of the 3 story colonial home, originally built in 1890. Your space is separate of the main house, without direct interaction with anyone that may be there at the time; common spaces include the porches, decks, dock, and green space. Other things to note European settlement near the Pamlico River in the 1690s led to the founding of Bath, North Carolina's first town, in 1705. By 1708, Bath had 50 people and 12 houses and soon became North Carolina's first port. While its early years were marked by political rivalries, Indian wars, and piracy, by 1746 Bath was being considered for the colony's capital. However, when the county government moved away in the late 1700s, Bath lost most of its importance and trade. Its original town limits now encompass a historic district. Home to Blackbeard the Pirate and the oldest church in North Carolina, Bath features guided tours of the Palmer-Marsh House (c. 1751), furnished Colonial home of wealthy official, and Bonner House (c. 1830), a furnished home of a Bath planter. Van Der Veer House (c. 1790) is a self-guided tour. There's also the Exhibit Center, a 1-mile walking tour, and a 15-minute orientation film in our Visitor's Center. At the Visitor Center, guests can watch a short 2-minute introductory film, view the exhibits, pick up a map and walking tour brochure, and sign up for guided tours of the Palmer-Marsh House and the Bonner House ($2 per person, per house + tax). Note: A guided tour is the only way to see the inside of the Palmer-Marsh House and the Bonner House. We highly recommend it. Tours are offered Tuesday-Saturday at 10:30 am, 1 pm, and 3 pm. If you want to see both houses - yes, you do! - you will walk to the Palmer-Marsh House and then take a golf cart to and from the Bonner House. Before or after your tour, be sure to take time to explore the Exhibit Center, where you'll discover Bath's history. Its past is woven with tales of political corruption, yellow fever epidemics, piracy (Blackbeard!), and wars with Native Americans. Blackbeard (Edward Teach) lived in Bath near the end of his life when Governor Eden offered him a pardon for his piracy. Local legend suggests he might have resided on the peninsula, yet all homes from that era have disappeared, leaving the truth unknown. Regrettably, he reverted to piracy, meeting his demise just a few months later in Ocracoke. While in Bath, your choice of activities are also plentiful. Kayaking, boating, hiking, biking, fishing, antiquing or just sitting back and relaxing. The tranquil waters of Bath Creek flow directly into the Pamlico, making it the perfect spot for water enthusiasts. Sailing, kayaking, canoeing, fishing, and bird-watching are just a few of the activities available in Bath that draw heavily on the area's close relationship with the water.
