Havre de Paix
Description
Take it easy at this unique and tranquil getaway. Close your eyes and listen to the birds sing. A kingfisher will come to keep you company, pigeons, finches and turtledoves will come to rest not far from you. Observe the river and the trees that surround it; all this will enchant you and give you the desire to draw, paint, read or write. The space Le Havre de Paix is an old house, it is the childhood home of Daniel Rigaux, my dad. His father Hyacinthe Rigaux returned from the 1939–1945 war. He had been taken prisoner. Returning from the war, his wife Louisa and their son Daniel left the village tavern (see photo on the fireplace) to come and live in this house where the grandmother Marie Journey lived (see photo on the fireplace). The Germans stayed in this village. You're going to sleep in this house. The large slabs at the entrance are marble. They were laid by Hyacinthe because he was a stonemason at the Boulonnais quarries The wooden chest is Daniel's soldier's suitcase when he was forced to fight in Algeria. The red worker comes from the childhood home of Monique (Daniel's wife). Her mom was a seamstress. The sideboard was made by Daniel with his own hands because he worked for an uncle in a carpentry shop in Le Waast before going to work at the Boulonnais steel mills. The library table comes from Daniel and Monique's house (1960s) The old rose trinkets come from Hyacinthe and Louisa's house. The baby in their arms is my brother. In this house you will sleep and relax. Enjoy it as much as I love it. Élisabeth Guest access The main house is completely renovated The washer-dryer is in a renovated barn. The other house is being renovated to expand the haven of peace and allow guests to come with friends and for each couple to have their privacy.
