Darling Ridge Retreat is alive with native flora and fauna, where kangaroos often pass through or pause to rest in the morning sun. Their gentle thumping is usually heard before they come into view—especially common during the cooler months. Set amongst the Darling Scarp, the area is naturally hilly, making every walk both scenic and invigorating. Whether you're exploring nearby trails or simply strolling around, the gentle and not so gentle inclines provide a refreshing way to stretch your legs and enjoy the health benefits of walking in nature. Just a short walk away, you’ll find National Park Falls—a 3.7 km return trail (approx. 1 hour each way) where Jane Brook cascades dramatically over 20 metres of sheer rock face. The falls are at their best in winter and spring. We’re also within walking distance of the Swan View Railway Heritage Trail Hub, the historic Swan View Tunnel, and a network of trails winding through John Forrest National Park. Distances and Times From Transport Hubs: 14km (under 20 minutes by car) from Perth International & Domestic Airport terminals 26km (under 40 minutes by car) from Perth City and Kings Park. 7.5km (12 minutes by car) from Midland Train Station. A train from Midland train station to Perth City takes under 30 minutes. Guest access You will have full use of the cabin, a private and separate dwelling on the property. The driveway is shared with the resident family of the main house, but the cabin includes a dedicated car space reserved exclusively for your stay. There is one small step at the front door for entry into the cabin via a security screen, and an electronic keypad code entry on the cabin door. The cabin patio can be accessed through the lounge room's security/sliding glass doors. The pool area is reached by a short track leading from the cabin and passing in front of the main residence, which sits adjacent to the cabin. Other things to note Last updated: 21st November 2025. Our property is located within a 7km wide flight corridor of a regional flight path. You may occasionally hear planes passing overhead. They’re usually just a short murmur as they fly over the Darling Scarp. From the pool patio you can see Perth Airport runways in the distance. Especially petty at night and a bonus for plane nerds like us who enjoy spotting aircraft as they come and go. Weather Warning: When storms roll in from the coast, as planes must land into the wind, these events can send all arrivals down the same approach path, bringing them over the Darling Scarp more than usual and sometimes in a stack.
