Description

A sea-view sanctuary for two, set in what Robert Burns described as “the most romantic sweet place I ever saw”. The space When Robert Burns visited Dunglass in 1787, he was so moved by the estate’s crumbling Gothic church, rugged coastline, sylvan woodlands and landscaped gardens, that he deemed it “the most romantic sweet place I ever saw.” Fast forward over 230 years and we’re inclined to agree with him, particularly as we admire sweeping views of the Dunglass woods and North Sea from the bubbling comfort of a hot tub made for two. Owned by the fourth generation of the Usher family, the Dunglass Estate spans over 5,000 acres of sustainable farmland, parkland and woodland and makes the ideal base from which to explore the beaches, historic towns and golf courses of East Lothian. The Treehouse, which is set in a secluded corner of the sprawling estate, doesn’t take its name from a lofty perch in a forest canopy but rather from the towering Cedar around which the timber structure is built. A circular teak seat wraps around the trunk of the Cedar, mirroring the rounded, organic shape of the Treehouse itself. Constructed from honey-coloured timber, the property affords mesmerising sea views from full-height windows and doors that line much of the circular living area, which also encompasses a dining area and kitchen. The curvaceous room is topped with a circular rooflight, which bathes it in light during the daytime and transforms into a stargazing window at night. A stylish bedroom is set off from the living area and leads into a bathroom complete with a large, freestanding bath and walk-in shower. Underfloor heating throughout ensures that the Treehouse is as inviting in cooler months as it is when the long summer days beckon guests to linger on its wraparound terrace and enjoy the private garden. But it’s the hot tub, snuggled up against the house on the terrace to offer ultimate seclusion, that’s the cherry on the top of this sensual Scottish bolthole. GROUND FLOOR The property sits on one floor, accessed via a ramped wooden deck. Access into the roundhouse which comprises an open-plan sitting, kitchen and dining area. This includes: Sitting room area with two seater sofa and armchair, wall-mounted Smart TV, Bose speaker. Kitchen with electric oven and four-ring induction hob, 3/4 dishwasher, fridge with small icebox and Nespresso machine with an initial supply of pods. Please note there is no microwave. Dining space with seating for two. Bedroom with king size bed, side tables, chest of drawers, rail with hanging space. En suite bathroom with roll-top bath and handheld shower mixer tap, large walk-in shower with rainforest head, basin and WC. OUTSIDE The outside area comprises a large raised deck with outdoor furniture, tree bench seat, cafe table and chairs, and two-person hot tub. Important - the water of the hot tub is emptied at the end of every guest stay, therefore please note that the water temperature may not be heated to the desired temperature on the day of arrival. This can take 24 hours to heat fully, therefore may not be fully useable until the day after arrival. It is also important to note that the hot tub needs daily testing and this will require attendance by a member of the maintenance team on the estate. This is essential for health & safety purposes therefore if guests are not agreeable to daily checks, then regrettably the hot tub would have to be removed from use for the duration of the stay. Please contact us if you have any concerns. The wider estate extends to 5000 acres and guests are welcome to walk and enjoy the wider area. There is private parking to the right-hand side of The Treehouse.
