1800s Carriage house in Berkshires / Hudson Valley
1800s Carriage house in Berkshires / Hudson Valley
Description
The carriage house was built in the 1800s on this Shaker farm. We've renovated it to provide modern convenience (minisplit HVAC, high speed wifi) and reviving original wood floors & antique furniture (from when it was an antique shop in the 1940s). This cozy spot is an ideal location for exploring the Berkshires & Hudson River Valley. 15-40min away from everything you want to do: Tanglewood concerts, plays, museums, hikes, lakes, skiing, wineries/breweries, farms, autumn leaves, historic sites. The space Shaker Meadows farmhouse and creamery are nestled in 50 acres of land that includes forested mountains, farmland, and a willow-lined pond that feeds into the Shaker Meadows wetlands. Guests at Shaker Meadows are welcome to use the 1/2+ mile of walking paths around the fields, hiking paths in the woods, the spacious lawns on the north and south sides of the buildings, and the shared grill and fire pit. The carriage house suite (also called Willow suite) is attached to in the farm’s 1940s creamery and has a bedroom (king bed & single bed), bathroom with tub/shower, full kitchen, spacious dining and living area (with sofa bed). In the mid-20th century, this southern building served as a creamery, processing and bottling milk for local dairies. It now houses four guest units-- the attached carriage house, the main Creamery unit, and two upstairs loft apartments, so you may see guests on the 50 acre grounds, but the carriage house entrance is 100 feet from any other guest entrance. This is a working, organic farm, so you may see bugs (especially lady bugs) or animals such as birds, newts, frogs, or many others on the property. As we do not spray, you may even be lucky enough to be visited by some lady bugs in the suite during your stay, don't worry, they are harmless and in local culture are lucky because they are beneficial and eat crop-destroying aphids.
