Orchard Thief Cottage

If you are looking for an incredibly special place to stay in the Waipara Wine Region, an hour north of Christchurch, Orchard Thief Cottage is just for you. Something very unique, brand new but made to look old using recycled NZ native timbers, genuine Edwardian and Victorian fittings and handcrafted cabinetry made right here in our workshop on the property. The space The cottage consists of a beautiful well appointed bedroom with a king size bed, two very comfy lounging chairs, a log fire, an ensuite bathroom, a dining area and a separate kitchenette. Orcharf Thief Cottage is perfect for a romantic weekend getaway. Have a relaxing soak in our outside vintage cast iron clawfoot bath (plumbed in hot and cold water) with a glass of wine in hand looking out over the neighbouring vineyard and Mt Cass range. Unwind with a good book from the mini library provided, explore our ever developing property with hundreds of fruit trees and lots of gorgeous gardens, and on a clear night enjoy the spectacular stars and Milky Way, just dreamy. A continental breakfast is provided for you, consisting of fruit and nut cereal, porridge, freshly home baked bread, jam, yogurt and fruit, speciality plunger coffee, a selection of various teas and an indulgent hot chocolate. We have the Vinyard Valley Food Cart at the entrance to our property, which offers barister made coffee, yummy pies and scones. Open from 5am to 3pm Monday to Friday and on Saturday mornings. By the way, Orchard Thief Cottage is named after the cows which feasted on our newly planted fruit orchard and nearly devastated it. The cows escaped from their paddock somewhere up the road and roamed the busy state highway before someone kindly let them onto our property. Anyway, most of the fruit trees grew back as time went by and a couple of years later we were offered the hide of one of the cows for our cottage - guess who had the last laugh. Please be advised that this property is on the main highway so you will hear some traffic noise and occasionally a train. During the months of September, October, and November, frost fighting activities (fans or helicopters) may be operating in the wine region. For those of you who are traveling from afar, English and German are both spoken.
