Description

Enjoy the natural beauty surrounding this historic getaway. Nestled at the foot of the Stirling Ranges and only 20 mins to Bluff Knoll. Meander through the bush to discover local flora and fauna, and view the working farm and animals. This is a special treat for history enthusiasts, set on one of the earliest established farms in WA history, dating back to 1850. Ideal for a digital detox in a low EMF location, yet with the optional convenience of fast WiFi and phone signal booster. The space Guests will stay in the 1960s built farm house, which is approximately 150m away from the heritage buildings. Three of the four bedrooms have queen size beds, the fourth bedroom has a double and a single bed. All bedrooms have various views of the farm and bushland. The lounge is spacious and comfortable with a TV, DVD player, books, games and cards for entertainment. The kitchen/diner is also spacious with a central fireplace and view of the natural bushland from the kitchen window. The bathroom is practical for families and groups including a shower and a bath. The toilet is separate. There is a large patio area and outdoor dining out the back, sunny for most parts of the day. The farm stay is situated on one of the earliest established farms in the area for sheep grazing, circa 1850s. The original shearing shed, stables, blacksmith workshop, stone cottage and main homestead (built between 1850 - 1862) are all still standing today. Sheep still graze these fertile lands, whilst the farm undergoes a transformation through regenerative agricultural techniques. Original bushland covers approximately half of the property, with future plans to rehabilitate further areas. Some other special features include original Vicar of Winkfield Pear trees and a grapevine that still survive to this day. We revere the past families who have lived and survived on what this land has provided. We are continuing with tradition in establishing our own food system in the orchard, vegetable garden and grazing animals for a way of sustainably living, nutrition and giving back to our community. Guest access There is no defined yard, so guests may explore the wider area around the farm stay, adjacent paddocks and bushland. A map will be provided to indicate where the boundary fences are and suggested bushwalks. We request that guests do not enter the front and back yard of the main homestead (private residence), nor any of the heritage buildings and machinery sheds, as these can be fragile or hazardous. However, guests are welcome to view the heritage buildings via an included guided tour. Just arrange a time that suits. Other things to note As this is a working farm, for the welfare of our animals, unfortunately visiting pets cannot be allowed. Suggest bringing all your food & toiletry supplies for a comfortable stay. Although far from the shops, we're not without little luxuries such as a coffee machine and bread maker (you cannot get fresher than that!). BYO flour of choice. To enjoy all the outdoors has to offer, don't forget your closed in shoes, hat and water. Insect repellent also handy at times. Stick to open tracks and avoid the long grass. Meals: The Borden Tavern (15km) Amelup Service Station (25km) Bluff Knoll Cafe (30km) Shops: Amelup Service Station (25km) General Store Ongerup (43km) IGA Gnowangerup (51km) Fuel: Diesel - self service at Elders in Borden (15km) Diesel/petrol - Amelup (25km) Mobile phone service is limited to Telstra.
