Less than a five minute walk to the beach, 10 more to the pier, and central to all that Herne Bay has to offer- Feel the serenity of the Kentish coast in our fresh and peaceful accommodation. Grab a bite at a seafront restaurant, enjoy the sunset, and stroll back along the shore all the way home within ten minutes. Equipped with its own parking and everything you need for a seaside getaway. March to September you can experience beautiful sun rises-and sunsets in a two minute walk to the beach. The space Sunset Getaway is a comfortably furnished seaside escape. Herne Bay train and bus station is at the end of the road and is a 15-20 minute walk to the accommodation. New lifts have been installed for wheelchair users, difficulty in walking and pushchairs. Trains run from London to Herne Bay, with some trains times offering the fast service, for your perfect short break. Getting around We are within a 2-4 minute walk to the beach and 10-15 minute walk along the coastline to the Pier and town. Sunset Getaway is a great base to go walking, or exploring by car along the beautiful coastline and seeing the many interesting places around the area. Whitstable and Canterbury are around a 20 minute drive. Whitstable is also a couple of stops away on the train, or if you want to catch up visiting your family locally. The beacon viewed from the town end of the beach is the recently renovated English Heritage site Reculver Towers and Roman Fort and is just a 15 minute drive. There is a superb park for children to play and a welcoming Pub for lunch, or an ice cream and drink in the café. This beach site is also recognised as excellent for finding shark’s teeth fossils when the tide is out. Whether you’re seeking relaxation or exploring, we offer a perfect getaway for your coastal escape. A manual is provided with information and ideas for your stay, and I am also available for any questions you may have. On arrival a welcome basket awaits you along with tea, coffee or herbal tea after your busy day or journey. Please see our video QR code on the section extra photos. The annex Our annex is next to our house separated by a locked gated courtyard. This is a compact accommodation light and airy, offering peace and quiet for relaxation. It is a homely cosy living space. The interior has a beach sea themed décor. You’ll find a full range of amenities, including TV, games, books, dedicated working space, kettle, toaster, air fryer, microwave, fridge and hotplate. Please note there is no oven. Washing up liquid is supplied. After a day of walking or exploring, you can return to freshen up before you choose to eat at one of the local pubs or restaurants and come back to a cosy comfortable king size bed and a double size sofa bed in the lounge, it is equipped with a mattress topper for extra comfort, for a restful, quiet night sleep, knowing your car is parked safe on the drive with security lighting. (Larger cars may overhang onto public footpath) There is generally free parking on the road. I provide bed linen, bath towel and hand towel for each guest and toiletries are supplied. A USB charging port is on each side of the bed and a hair dryer is provided. Gated locked courtyard This is situated to the left of the drive; it has a small step down into the courtyard. Where there is wooden chairs and small table to comfortably have a cigarette/vape, a glass of wine before your stroll into town or simply a chat. Fishing tackle or bicycles can be stored safely overnight. During the summer months, roses and fairy lights line the wall for a pleasant peaceful setting. Convenience Stores We have a convenience store five minute walk that also delivers locally. There is a co-op and Tesco express both are within a 20 minute walk or a few minutes drive. For larger stores, Morrisons, Aldi and Lidl are a short drive. Sunrise and Sunsets A printout for the month of your stay (March to September, as both disappear behind the land the rest of the year) is in the manual for the accurate times of sunrise and sunset. You can wander down the road ( 2-3 minutes) with a coffee to watch the sunrise, meditate or to do your yoga or Tai Chi workout, a very magical time indeed. In the evenings you can grab a bottle of wine and some glasses go and unwind and watch as the sun sets over the horizon. Alternatively wander along the coast line to Hampton Inn (15-20 minutes) a favourite for a meal, music , drink or just sit on the wall to see some spectacular sunsets and the golden hour ( the hour after sunset can produce some wonderful golden hues especially when there is a little cloud). Entertainment The Ship Inn is the oldest Pub in Herne Bay, well worth a visit for good food, weekend music or sit with views over the sea. The Hampton Inn has good food and views over the bay to watch the sunsets and occasional live music. The Divers Arms is known locally as a live music venue and usually has live music every weekend. The Pier Ceylon, beautiful setting, outside seating, great regular various entertainment and great food. The Bay restaurant immediately outside the Pier is also very popular. There are many any other restaurants around town. the Fish in two Fish and chip shop in Sea Street is classed as the best by many locals. The Kavanagh Cinema is our local cinema, very reasonably priced and next to the sports centre and swimming pool. There are a few amusement arcades along the sea front, great when the weather is not so good. The Herne Bay Pier has a summer shows programme with small business, food, drink and fun for all the family. The Herne Bay Museum great to learn and hear about local culture and history, (Workshops for children during school holidays are generally available) The Kings Hall is an Edwardian property for arts performance and events. It has a café gallery and venue hire. The architectural gem has captivated visitors since 1913. It was formally known as the East Cliff Pavilion, it was opened by Princess Henry of Battenberg; the youngest daughter of Queen Victoria, who named it King Edward VII Memorial Hall after her late brother. It was shortened to “The Kings Hall”. It is now a host to a fantastic range of entertainment including live music, comedy, festival events and much more. Latest shows are in the “What’s going on” manual in the accommodation. Children’s play parks – Next to the Clock Tower, also a few minutes from the Hampton Inn, this park also has a sand pit and Memorial Park is opposite Aldi. The Memorial Park is situated in the heart of town and offers a wide range of outdoor activities. There is a children’s play area, community garden, sports facilities, flower gardens, parking and toilets. The lake is large and model boat enthusiasts are usually seen. Fishing is not allowed, but there are plenty of ducks who are always keen to be fed. You may be lucky enough to see the terrapins basking on the island and the occasional Mandarin duck. There is a large choice of take away foods in the Bay. Book your getaway today and make memories of a lifetime. Guest access Guests have access to a small to medium size single car parking space with security lighting on a private drive. There is generally free parking without restriction on the road for larger vehicles. Keys are collectible from the lock box or host. Other things to note Holistic Retreat for 1 or 2 people available. Do you need to learn how to unwind and relax? Are you feeling overwhelmed with life, tired and exhausted? I am a holistic therapist and offer 2 day retreats, one night accommodation with lunch included and a choice of three therapies, with time to explore the town or just simply recuperate. Check in is at 10am on the first day and check out is 3pm second day.
