Description
Red Maple is a relaxing family friendly cottage on a wooded acre of gardens, evergreens, and deciduous trees that blaze with color in the fall. Sunny and simply furnished, it is one mile from a public access beach, two miles from Bass Harbor Head Light in Acadia National Park. Explore the park and the coastal fishing community, take a boat cruise, play golf, and enjoy island/mountain views! Come in winter and visit family, ski, hike, or work remotely in peace and tranquility. The space Red Maple Cottage has been a haven for families, couples, and working individuals since we began hosting in 2005. Formerly known as Ledges Cottage, this humble, comfortably furnished home offers three bedrooms, one full bathroom, and plenty of closet space to accommodate your stay. The eat-in kitchen and living room provide enough comfortable seating for everyone, and the glass front wood stove beckons your family and friends to gather on a chilly evening for a movie or game after a day on in the park. The large picture window allows a nice view of the gardens, and the deer who stroll through in the morning and evening. The spacious master bedroom has a king size bed and dedicated workspace. The other two bedrooms are furnished with a full size bed in one, and two twins in the other. All bedroom and living room windows have insulated curtains for your comfort and privacy (there are shades in the kitchen) Our summer guests enjoy the island breeze and the sound of peepers at night, and stay cool with air conditioning on hot summer days. We offer a 43" Roku TV, a DVD player and high speed internet with ethernet. There is a radio alarm clock, and a CD player/radio just in case. Play a round of croquet and gaze at the stars while you plan your next day of exploration in the park! A shaded kennel offers a safe resting place for one or two dogs, with plenty of surrounding space in the woods and yard to explore while on leash. There is a park shuttle (June-Mid October) bus stop with a safe sidewalk leading the way, and a dog friendly walking park at our community garden overlooking the head of the harbor, less than a quarter mile away. Red Maple is the perfect coastal cottage getaway for your relaxing family vacation! Guest access Guests have use of the entire house and front and back yards. There is a short wooded path along the side and back of the house, with seating to enjoy the quiet, bird watch, etc. There is a private driveway with room for three cars. ***No RVs, campers, or oversized vehicles of any kind are allowed. There is no parking on the private road. Trailers are only allowed with special permission. Send booking inquiry with dimensions and description of trailer. There is storage space for bicycles and other small gear in the shed. The front door, corner of the house, and the shed all have working lights, and there are solar ground lights illuminating the walkway and steps leading to the front door. Other things to note Acadia National Park is open year round, and the off season (November to April) is a wonderful time of the year to visit, especially if you enjoy winter outdoor activities such as ice skating, cross country skiing, and ice fishing. Many stores are closed at this time, but we keep a list of those that are open for your convenience. We offer great discounts from November through April, and shorter stays after the foliage, until the high season resumes. Want to get away for a few weeks or more? Send us an inquiry with your off season dates and we will help you plan your stay up to 28 days. We routinely check our high speed internet to be sure it meets your needs for remote work as well. Guests with no reviews, we will give you all the information you need in order to have a successful stay, and would love to be the hosts that give you your first five star review! Dogs are the only pets allowed due to family allergies. Dogs must be on leash or in the kennel when outside on the property. A 6'x9' kennel with a cable is available in a wooded area next to the driveway. All dogs must be declared at the time of booking. If your dog will be a guest at Red Maple, please give a description of size and breed when you book. As a rule we accept one dog, but we will make exceptions based on the accommodations we can provide. We love dogs of all sizes, and we want them to be comfortable, too. Our biggest concern is barking. We have understanding neighbors with dogs, and we want to be considerate of them and their dogs as well. For your comfort, we have installed AC units in the living room and the master bedroom, and have cooling fans in each bedroom closet. Many Maine homes do not have central air conditioning, and even though Maine is typically moderately warm in mid summer, we do get a few hotter days. The AC units are in use from May 15th-October 15th. We also have insulated curtains (not 100% black out) in every bedroom and in the living room, to help keep the house cool during hot spells. In the unlikely event of a power or internet outage, we will keep you updated on estimated reconnection times.
