Westland Retreat

"Westland" is a historically-important mansion located by the Washington coast with views of Gray's Harbor. Nestled just outside of downtown Hoquiam, it is easy walking distance to several small grocery stores and lovely restaurants. Despite close proximity to the town, Westland’s expansive grounds are a rare and private oasis. Whether you desire a secluded retreat, a unique event venue, a place for a photoshoot, or a gateway for exploring the Olympic Peninsula, Westland offers it all. The space NOTE: PRICING is located at the end under "other details"--please read until the end if the pricing seems confusing for you. Westland is not your typical Airbnb listing, since the focus is not on renting all spaces to maximum capacity. In fact, we wish to discourage this, so that we can offer a unique experience to guests as we work to improve and curate this historic dwelling. Situated on over six acres with botanical gardens on one end and large fields for play on another, you'll have plenty of outdoor space for any getaway or event you may have planned. Westland features a commercial-grade kitchen, a deck with seven-person hot tub, a large patio with outdoor gas-start wood-fired fireplace, a den with 108" projector screen and ample sound system, an extensive library, antique furnishings from the original owners, vintage and historical fixtures, décor and more. Due to significant interest in this estate, we are offering Westland for rental on a limited basis. Our passion is restoring and preserving this piece of history while allowing you, the guest, to enjoy it while we do. Books from the expansive library, which fills three rooms, are available to read but must be returned to their original shelf space as catalogued. We can also consult with you about whether this property is a good fit for your retreat or event. We do not permit children under the age of 14 at Westland, but if you wish to bring a dog, please inquire about this possibility. We may permit dogs (on a case by case basis) if they are socialized/well behaved and housebroken. If you or another guest in your party is allergic to pets, this property may not be a good fit for you, but we do, of course, extensively clean after every guest visit. **Additionally we do own an event center downtown if you'd like a much-larger event space nearby which includes rental of tables and chairs to accommodate up to 300 people which may be available during your stay; message for details.** Guest access Guests will have shared access to the extensive grounds with the host, however, due to the delicate nature of the gardens, some areas may be unavailable due to maintenance and restoration. If you have a specific interest in an area, please contact us for availability and access information. While maintenance is taking place, please honor signs restricting access to those areas so that our master gardener’s work is not disrupted. Rental of Westland grants you access to the ground and upper floors, as well as the professional-grade laundry machines located in the basement. Access to other portions of the basement are not permitted. Please note that this property has numerous stairs and the elevator is currently not available for guest use. Westland also has a small library of small and specific-use appliances available for use in the commercial kitchen, as well as a racket-sports net for badminton or volleyball for use next to the concrete raised beds adjacent to the garage and patio. Off-limits are also the Garage or the Shop- these are the external buildings located across from the main house. Signage will also designate these limited-access areas. Use of the formal dining room and second primary bedroom--not included under "bedrooms" for listing purposes--are for special events only. Please inquire with us about use of these special areas. Other things to note Westland is a labor of love, and our mission is to continue to curate, restore, and preserve it as best as possible. We hope you will relish the gorgeous interior, exterior, and grounds, and make good use of the amenities provided. We are currently working to compile a local guide, but in the meantime, please ask should you need assistance. The caretaker/host does have a golden retriever, who will be in the basement apartment. Advanced notice of at least a week must be given to have him homed elsewhere for your stay. PRICING STRUCTURE: Westland is $400/night for 2 people, plus an additional $50 per person after this. We sometimes impose a 2-night minimum at $300 per night during summer months. If you find the cost prohibitive, we are open to some negotiation, especially for gentle usage. Note however, cleaning such a large house to a high standard is expensive, though cleaning is cost-justified with additional nights stayed. As such, we can offer the following: 1 Night - $500 +$50 per person after 2 2 Nights - $900 +$50 per person after 2 3 Nights - $1100+$50 per person after 2 Each additional night is $200 for two people +$50 per additional person per night Please message us with any questions! EVENTS: We discourage parties as described by Airbnb. This is not a party venue. If you have an event, please follow Airbnb guidelines on events. We do require event insurance (it is $150, roughly, from most brokers). This is not an open invite venue (again, as per Airbnb guidelines). WEDDINGS: We do host weddings, and this falls under the event umbrella, and all event requirements apply. Our wedding minimum is $3000, but we do offer folding chairs, an event tent, folding tables, and some other extras. Please inquire about last-minute weddings, as we can likely accommodate
