Shepherd's Wagon on the Swabian Alb (Drackenstein)
Shepherd's Wagon on the Swabian Alb (Drackenstein)
Description
Escape the everyday & immerse yourself in nature with a stay in our handcrafted shepherd's wagon, lovingly built by a local carpenter in the tradition of the German Schäferwagen. Nestled on private land with no nearby homes, this tiny house is surrounded by forest, meadow & distant farms.🌿 Enjoy your own campfire & open-air compost toilet in the woods. Whether stargazing by the fire or soaking in the tranquility, this cozy retreat offers the perfect blend of rustic charm & solitude.✨️ The space ❄️ Please note: The shepherd's wagon does not have heating, but it is well insulated. Please bring warm clothing & good sleeping bags/blankets with you if it is cold. We also offer firewood that you can purchase to make a cosy campfire outside. 🔥 Adventure awaits! The shepherd's wagon can only be reached by hiking or biking through scenic trails. Be ready to carry in all your essentials & embrace the journey. Inside the approximately 6 m² shepherd's wagon, you'll find a fresh fitted sheet & pillows; however, please bring your own sleeping bag for warmth. To make your stay easier, we also offer sleeping bags for rent at a small additional cost. 😴 Meals can be cooked over the campfire grill or via roasting stick, & food can then be enjoyed either on the surrounding log benches, at a wooden picnic table, or inside the shepherd's wagon at a table & benches for two. For families, there's a sandbox & a small playhouse for children to play in. A nearby windmill is visible from the shepherd’s wagon & may occasionally be heard when in operation, adding to the unique rural ambiance. 🌳 Guest access The shepherd's wagon is exclusively for guest use throughout your stay. To preserve the tranquil atmosphere & natural surroundings, additional tent camping is not permitted on the property. Similarly, on-site parking is not allowed. Guests are kindly asked to park approximately 1 km away (a scenic walk of 15-20 minutes) to fully immerse themselves in the peaceful environment. 🌲 Other things to note 🛏️ Sleeping Arrangements: • A freshly fitted sheet & pillows are provided • Please bring your own sleeping bag (alternatively, sleeping bags are available to rent for €5 each) 🍽️ What to Bring: • All necessary food, drinking water & camping equipment, similar to what you'd pack for a camping trip in a tent • A flashlight or headlamp, & a power bank if you wish to charge devices 🔌 Facilities: • The shepherd's wagon is off-grid: there is no electricity, heating, or running water • Solar-powered lanterns are provided for lighting 🔥 Campfire Use: • The designated fire pit may be used responsibly • Firewood & fire-starting materials are available for €5 (a donation which we'll use towards planting more trees on the property) • Smoking or any open flames aren't allowed inside the shepherd's wagon • Please note that because of it being a very hot & dry summer, there is a chance that it won't be possible to have a campfire because of a fire ban in the area. 🚫🔥 We'll let you know before your arrival what the current situation is, but you may need to alter your cooking plans as a result. 🍽 Thank you for helping to look after & protect our little piece of paradise! 🙏🤗 🌿 Environmental Guidelines: • Please respect the surrounding nature & wildlife • Kindly take all waste with you upon departure
