Description

Whether you are looking for a romantic getaway or a spacious retreat for a large group, Agassiz House Inn offers a unique experience. Book a cozy bedroom for two, bring a group of 8-10 friends, or reserve the entire property, perfect for gatherings for up to eighteen people. Located in Calumet, you will be within walking distance of shopping, coffee shops and restaurants, while being within reach of exciting outdoor adventures, Lake Superior beaches, and other local attractions on the Keweenaw. The space This home is centrally located on the Keweenaw Peninsula. We are next door to the Keweenaw National Historical Park, Calumet Unit. Our family has spent the last three years updating the home with modern conveniences we have new plumbing, electrical wiring, and luxurious bathrooms. The antique and vintage decor pieces were hand selected by an estate sale specialist in the Detroit Metro area. There are nine bedrooms and seven and a half bathrooms. This spacious and updated space, with historical significance, has been a successful venue for class reunions and family vacations. There is a beautiful dining area and two other exceptionally large living areas in addition to a fully stocked kitchen and mudroom to shed coats and boots. Approximately six thousand square feet makes for a comfortable stay for a large group. During the summer months we provide a grill and outdoor space to cook, hang out and play outdoor games. It is perfect for a group of 10-15 people and can comfortably house a maximum of eighteen guests: two guests per bedroom. One of the best features of the home is that there are plenty of bathrooms for everyone! There are seven bathrooms for the nine bedrooms, in addition to a powder room on the first floor. Another complement that we receive is how quiet the house is, even with other guests in the home. Charming 1st Floor Historic Room The Charming 1st Floor Historic Room offers one queen bed in a cozy bedroom off the kitchen and dining room, with no stairs required. The private, detached bathroom with a walk-in shower and seating is conveniently located on the first floor. There's also a shared powder room nearby for night-time convenience. Lilac Room The Lilac Room features a king-size bed and windows overlooking the park and Red Jacket Road. Antique furnishings, including a 1930s refurbished vanity, add a touch of elegance. Your private bathroom is detached but easily accessible, and includes a walk-in shower and pedestal sink. Robes are provided for added comfort. Serene Green Room The Serene Green Room, with its queen-size bed and views of the park headquarters and Red Jacket Road, offers a tranquil escape. The private, detached bathroom with a walk-in shower and pedestal sink is easily accessible, with robes provided. Beautiful Cherry Malt Suite Perfect for families, the Beautiful Cherry Malt Suite includes two bedrooms sharing a single bathroom with a tub shower combination and pedestal sink. The Cherry Malt Bedroom has a king-size bed, bespoke closets, and spacious windows overlooking the National Park and backyard. Antique furnishings complete the room's charm. The attached bathroom is shared with the Sunshine Bedroom, which features a queen bed and adjacent bathroom access. Located on the second floor, accessible by stairs. Quaint Peach Room Ideal for those who enjoy luxury, the Quaint Peach Room offers a queen bed and an expansive private bathroom with an extra-large walk-in shower, steam option, and double vanity. Situated on the second floor and only accessible by stairs. Calming Blue Room The Calming Blue Room provides a spacious retreat with a king bed and a private bathroom featuring a walk-in shower and pedestal sink. Located on the third floor, accessible by stairs, this room also includes wing-back chairs for reading or resting, with views of the National Park. Attic Suite The Attic Suite is perfect for larger groups, featuring two bedrooms and a shared bathroom with a custom-tiled walk-in shower and an antique clawfoot tub. The spacious first bedroom has a queen bed, reading chairs, and a small dining table. Antique furnishings add charm, while a passthrough leads to the second bedroom with two vintage twin beds. Note: The twin-bed room does not have a separate entrance and requires passing through the first bedroom. Located on the third floor, accessible by stairs. Other Notes: - Wi-Fi is available in all rooms, but televisions are not provided. - Portable air conditioners and gas grill are available during the summer and stored during the winter. Rental agreement will be provided. Guest access As you step through the grand entrance of this historically significant residence, you are transported to a bygone era, where opulence and refinement define every corner. A plush red sofa and a hot cup of tea creates a cozy ambiance, perfect for unwinding with a classic novel or engaging in intellectual conversations. Soft, warm lighting enhances the timeless allure of this room, making it an ideal retreat for literary enthusiasts. The parlor is a breathtaking room with floor to ceiling paneled walls. The original light sconces provide subtle illumination to the substantial room which is home to antique sofas and wing-back chairs that offer an inviting space for intimate gatherings or quiet contemplation. Adding to the room's air of refinement is President of Calumet and Helca Mining Company, Alexander Agassiz’s nine-foot executive desk. A soft area rug partially covers the hardwood floors, providing a touch of warmth to this elegant space. The dining room, a masterpiece of craftsmanship, boasts wall panels with black and white toile wallpaper lending to a space that speaks of history and important conversations. A stylish chandelier and wall sconces hang overhead, casting a soft glow over the meal. This is a setting fit for exquisite dining experiences, whether hosting a formal dinner party or savoring a quiet meal with loved ones. Other things to note Although there are no televisions in the home, high speed Wi-Fi is provided for your devices.
