Other things to note History of Posada Nativa Miss Trinie The Posada Nativa Miss Trinie is a native house. Its history dates back 102 years and it was founded by Dr. Thomas Daniel Wilberford Hemans, the first doctor to arrive in the Archipelago. This native house has been inherited from generation to generation until reaching the current owners. Approximately 102 years ago, Dr. Thomas Daniel Wilberford Hemans, a surgeon who graduated from the London and New York schools, together with his cousin, Mr. Philip Phillips, a photographer (known at that time as the magicians of the black box), preferred to settle in San Andrés because they considered that the island would need a doctor more than their native Jamaica, an English territory with which there was frequent commercial and migratory exchange at the time (approximately 1907). Upon his arrival on the island of San Andrés, Dr. Thomas Daniel Wilberford Hemans practiced his work as a doctor clandestinely due to lack of permission from the Archipelago's government. During that time, he met one of the wealthiest families on the island, the Mays. They were light-skinned and the vast majority had light eyes. A descendant of this family met a beautiful lady named Alvorda May, who fell madly in love at first sight. He was not indifferent to her, and she was attracted by the charms of this young man with dark skin, tall and stocky with friendly features, different from the features she had normally known. At this time, when white people, arranged marriages, and status in society predominated, this relationship would not be viewed favorably, mainly by her father David May Pomare, a powerful man, known and respected by society, who flatly refused this relationship. He tried to keep his daughter away from Dr. Hemans, who angrily said, "Alvorda, if you had told me that your needs were for a monkey, I would have sent you one from the United States." But in the face of adversity, the beautiful, pure, respectful and great love between these two young people always prevailed, and they loved each other more and more every day, even when they were separated in silence. Dr. Hemans, with his great interest in the health of the island community, had added to his great love for his beautiful Alvorda, a love that prompted him to fight for a government permit to legally practice his profession. He was increasingly known among society and earned the respect and appreciation of society day by day. In the same way, he improved his relationship with Mr. David May (his father-in-law), to whom he provided his services as a doctor on several occasions due to the delicate state of health of his wife, Miss Julia Hawkins (Alvorda's mother). As a result of his work as a doctor and the support of his parents in Jamaica, Dr. Hemans began construction on land adjacent to the present-day Church of the Sagrada Familia. At the end of his residency, he secretly married the young Alvorda May, forcibly provoking the approval of this relationship from her father, Mr. David. Shortly after they were married in 1910, the Government of San Andrés granted permission to Dr. Thomas Daniel Wilberford Hemans to practice as a surgeon. With this triumph, he founded another house which was used as his medical office (this is currently operating as the Posada Nativa Miss Trinie). From his marriage to Alvorda, two beautiful girls were born, Ora and Tressy. This new family, known as the Hemans May family, enjoyed their stay in their residential home until, due to black magic that was very common at that time, the peace of the home and the health of the girls were harmed. Sometimes pins appeared in the girls' teapots at night, and they cried desperately for unknown shadows. For this reason, they decided to move to the house previously used as a doctor's office, which today is known as Posada Nativa Miss Trinie. As the years went by, Dr. Hemans gained more position among society, becoming known as one of the most remembered men of the time, and at the same time, the most loved by the May family. His fame transcended time, reaching the present day for his dedication to medicine and for the written testimonies of the (URL HIDDEN) Irish Catholics who lived on the islands during the years (PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN). Considering the closed customs of his time, he trained several island women in the trade of midwives. In 1931, Dr. Hemans became ill with heart disease, which is why he was forced to move to Panama City in search of medical help, where he died at the age of 46, leaving Mrs. Alvorda a widow and his two daughters Ora and Tressy orphans. Currently, this house where Dr. Hemans resided and practiced is used by his descendants as a Native Inn, preserving his stories and parts of his decorations from the time it was built. His silver cutlery, crockery, furniture, travel trunks, walls, photographs taken by his cousin, photographer (the magician of the black box) Mr. Philip Phillips, even Dr. Hemans' gold glasses remain intact in this place, preserving the magic, the joy, the stories that were lived on those walls at that time.
