Description
The Old Silk Gallery is over 100 years old and is a beautifully renovated former silk warehouse. It has high exposed wooden ceilings, an open plan living, dining and kitchen area, a loft with beds for four, an elegant sleeping gallery and beds downstairs around the cozy fireplace. There are two bathrooms, one upstairs and one downstairs. But what makes it special are the hosts. Lots of artistic touches, especially mosaic floors and artwork made of stone and other natural materials. The space The front door opens directly into the large, impressive main living space with high ceilings and unusual round window and this is what makes the house so special and memorable. In this central area there are two dedicated sofas around a fireplace with an additional three sofas which have proper mattresses for sleeping. There is another large sofa in the living area. There are two large dining tables that can be used separately or together and they can seat up to 12 people. There is a desk workspace and the kitchen is open plan and set back from the main area. Downstairs is the main bathroom with toilet and shower. Open stairs lead up to a beautiful gallery where the main sleeping quarters are. It is open plan once again with a large king size bed as well as two single beds which can be used individually or pushed together to create another large king sized bed. There is also a cozy reading corner with armchair and choice of books. There is a further bathroom upstairs with shower and toilet. Outside there is a lovely courtyard which is leafy and private. The table, chairs and benches seat up to 12 people and it\s a peaceful place to relax and enjoy an afternoon or evening. Everywhere there are handmade features, from the outdoor table to the mosaics inlaid into the floors. Everything reflects Achille's love of stone and old wood and showcases his artistic talents!! Guest access The guests have sole use of the property with their own front door and sole use of the courtyard. There is parking for two cars however guests should be aware that there is no place to turn so cars need to reverse out. There is also free on street parking parking if preferred and the hosts can show them where is best. Other things to note Agia is a busy agricultural town with a rich history and heritage. The Old Silk Gallery is approx. 250m from the central square where there are bakers, a large supermarket, specialist shops as well as a wide variety of cafeterias, restaurants, bars. There are also chemists as well as a regional health centre. Agia is a major apple producer and it's apples are known throughout Greece. The hosts can arrange a visit to one of the many apple farms around the area for those interested. Also the area is renowned for it's chestnuts and cherries. If you are lucky you might see one of the local festivals celebrating these products! The famous monastry of Prodromos in Anatoli, with nuns from 13 different countries, opens it's doors to visitors to show the art of beekeeping and organic farming. In neighbouring picturesque villages such as Metaxochori and Megalovriso there are also place to eat and drink and they are well worth a visit. The Kissavos mountain range has many interesting walks of different degrees of difficulty with panoramic views, waterfalls etc. The coast is only 10minutes drive away and there are many beaches to choose from.
