Description
Pail End is a one-bedroom holiday let, next door to the owners' house in the Peak District village of Brassington, a couple of miles from Carsington Water. We've been running Pail End since 2015, and we (well, Richard) take a lot of care to make it a nice place to stay. Brassington is a traditional stone-built Peak District village, with walks from the doorstep, including the High Peak Trail (former railway line). The space Stepping into Pail End, there is an open-plan living area, with compact kitchen, dining table by the window, and a cosy, relaxing sitting area with TV. Upstairs, you have a double eaves bedroom, with a window looking south along the valley, complete with a couple of chairs and small table for morning coffee, or tea breaks. Thinking about accessibility: there are steps from the parking area to Pail End, a step down into the property, and the bedroom is on the first floor. The bathroom is on the ground floor. Pail End is in its tenth year: we have many excellent 5* reviews (which we are not allowed to put on here, unfortunately). Guest access Outside, the garden is shared with the owners (who don't bite), but there is enough space so you can enjoy that in peace; guests often breakfast/lunch/read & relax outside in the summer. The grass terrace in the photos is only used by our Pail End guests. For guests with a dog, it’s important to note that the garden is not securely enclosed. Being a listed property in a conservation area, this would be difficult to achieve. Other things to note Pail End is for couples (or singles) who are looking for a relaxing break in the countryside, with inspiring views, invigorating walks, and interesting places to visit, so you can return home refreshed. It is an excellent base for exploring the White Peak area of the Peak District. Just along the lane from Pail End is The Gate Inn, an atmospheric seventeenth century pub serving real ales and good food. We suggest: Carsington Water: a multitude of footpaths to explore, with a visitor centre (shops and cafe). You can walk all the way round if you feel inclined (9 miles). It has been known for Pail End guests to start from here, walk to there, walk round, and walk back again (13 miles). Cromford Mill: birthplace of the factory system and part of the Derwent Valley Mills World Heritage Site. Exploring Lumsdale: a wonderful valley of ruined mills on the edge of Matlock. Walking along Cromford Canal with its industrial heritage, such as Leawood Pumping Station. Cycling along the old railway lines, the closest of which is the Cromford & High Peak Trail, which passes just above Brassington, and has yet more industrial history, such as Middleton Top Engine House.
