Rustic Retreat on Lake Huron

Relax with the whole family at this peaceful place. A cozy and comfortable lakefront cottage on the sandy beach and waters of Lake Huron's Hammond Bay - perfect for kids. Amble along seven miles of serene unbroken beach. Hammond Bay's unique geography facing north/northeast provides for eye-opening sunrises in the morning and glorious pastel colors of sunsets in the evening. You won't be disappointed with the view! Plenty of spaces for the family to hang out, including a large screen porch. The space Our cottage sits right on Hammond Bay, a natural setting that is serene and quiet. We are 20-30 minutes from Rogers City, Cheboygan and Onaway, but there is a quaint Italian restaurant (with pizza takeout), that doubles as a breakfast/lunch diner just a 5 minute walk (2 minute drive) from our cottage, open Thursday thru Sunday in season. There are 3 bedrooms - 1 with a Queen bed, 1 with a twin bed, and a loft with 4 twin beds. There is a small kitchen, a full bath, a living room, a family room, a laundry area, and a large screen porch facing the lake. The only dining table is located on the screened porch. The kitchen island has 5 chairs. We provide 5 gallons of drinking water, due to having well water. The tap water is usable for cooking. You'll be amazed at how far out into the lake you can walk, with 2 sandbars providing for shallow waters and lots of play space. It's Lake Huron, so the water can be a bit chilly, but there are also days when it feels like "bath water". You can expect to enjoy the grandness of nature - the changes of the lake from gentle glass-like surface to white-cap surf; on most mornings we hear the searching calls of a pair of Loons; and we are not surprised (though less frequent) when we see a bald eagle or two soaring above, screaming down the beach at eye level or if really lucky - a dive to the water to grab a fish supper. You can also expect to encounter black flies, mosquitos and other small flies depending on the time of the year. Such is life in Up North Michigan. We have 4 kayaks stored in the berm between our yard and the beach -- feel free to enjoy their use, along with our beach furniture, hammock, the swing overlooking the lake and the firepit (strict safety precautions must be followed if you use the firepit).
