Nature-lovers' paradise near the beach
Description
Designer home built in 2008. High quality wood and stone work, including arched doorways, bedroom balconies, master bedroom with fireplace, and finished basement. Open layout with huge windows everywhere. Extremely private, facing open space, surrounded by a creek and wooded area, next to bike path going directly to Hendry's Beach. Gorgeous, quiet setting. Fresh ocean air, tangerine tree, produce garden, birds, beach toys. A very welcoming high end family home! Highly discounted through Oct 19. The space The house is at the end of a driveway shared by four houses on an acre, so it is removed from the main street and very quiet. Our nextdoor neighbors are another family and our good friends, but the house is designed so that from inside the house and from most places in the yard you don't even know they are there. Arroyo Burro Creek wraps around the property on two sides, and the yard makes you feel like you are out in nature. We have lots of birds come to the feeder, and house finches nest in the eves in the spring. A pair of redtail hawks nests in the tall eucalyptus tree, and we sometimes see a bobcat. We have lived in the house for ten years while our two boys went through junior high, high school and then off to college. The previous owner built it and put a lot of care into its design. We love it and feel so thankful that we are able to live in it. It lends itself to vacation rental, and we have successfully rented it out short-term in the past while we are on our own vacation. This coming year we are taking a sabbatical (Bill teaches at Santa Barbara City College), so we are looking for longer-term renters while we are away. Whether you stay for a month or several months, you will love it! Because this is normally our actual home, we have lots of things that make it livable to which you will have access: games & puzzles, printer, tools, gardening accessories, body boards, two or more bikes, two Costco surf boards, and even our wet suits if you promise to take care of them. The house itself has a beautiful and extremely well lit great space with great views out to the yard and garden to the southeast. The kitchen has doors that open right out to the patio where there is an outside dining table and grill. It has a finished basement, which is rare in Santa Barbara, and is where we keep our TV. There is even a bathroom and queen bed down there, so the house comfortably sleeps eight even though it has only three actual bedrooms. The basement is large enough for a group to do Yoga or other exercise workouts. The kitchen is a dream, with windows on three sides two sinks, a large central island, and a 6-burner wolf stove with a pancake griddle, large sub-Zzero fridge and a built-in microwave The three bedrooms are upstairs, and there is a space on the upstairs landing outside bedroom #3 that can serve as an office, although you could also set up an office area in the finished basement. The property itself is spacious and open, with a creek running around the edges, and is connected to open space so very wild. Backs up against Veronica Springs Park, which sits across from Eilings Park, the largest private park in the US, full of bike/hike trails and paragliding. Gorgeous bike/walking trail down to the beach as well as up towards town. Guest access We have a one car garage and a driveway that comfortably fits two cars as well. We are a mile from Hendry's beach, and there is a new and scenic bike path that will take you there very safely. In the other direction, the freeway is less than a mile away, and downtown is bikeable and only five or ten minutes by car. We are very close to Elings Park, which has hiking and mt. biking trails, athletic fields, and a great view out over the ocean. Santa Barbara's public bus #5 passes right in front of the house and can take you directly to Santa Barbara City College, which is 15-20 minutes away by bike and 8 minutes by car. UCSB is ten minutes away by car, as is the airport. Other things to note Central vac, forced air heating, on-demand hot water heater. The sound system in the living room (great space) is excellent, and there are built-in ceiling speakers connected to the central sound system in just about every room in the house. We have Sonos. We don't subscribe to Cable TV. Wifi speed is 135 Mbps. Floors are mahogany hardwood and do scratch, so home has many rugs, and we ask that you don't drag furniture, rocks, or anything hard or harsh across the floors that could cause scratching.
