Built in 1957, The Hollywood Beach Bungalow is a true Mid-century California Cottage "beach house" experience. We are one of the last few remaining Mid-century homes in the historic and coveted neighborhood of "Hollywood Beach" AKA "Hollywood-By-The-Sea", in the city of Oxnard, CA. Experience the laid back SoCal beach life at its best. Our vast and never overly-crowded beach, which is one street in from the sand, has incredible views of the Channel Islands and beyond. ENTRY / LIVING SPACE: From the moment you open our dutch door and enter our beautifully diffused light-filled home, you’ll immediately be delighted to see and feel that our humble yet simultaneously well-appointed open Living / Dining / Kitchen space feels more spacious than you may have imagined and packs a big creative personality into a small space. Welcome to the heartbeat of our home! With the ocean just one street in, or a 2 minute walk in either direction, you’ll enjoy the fresh ocean breeze filling the space from front to back. DINING AREA: Our large and rustic multi-purpose Restoration Hardware dining table is where endless memories are created. This is where we cook and gather with loved ones for meals, board games (put those devices down if you’re able to) or, if you must, it’s also a great place for hybrid work. We often find ourselves doing all of these activities at once when our family and friends are visiting. We have Zippy WiFi, allowing for multiple streaming devices for those Zoom meetings & movies. KITCHEN: We have all or most items that you should want or need in a well stocked kitchen including but not limited to: various coffee making options: Standard 12-cup, Chemex pour over, French Press and a Keurig. Our custom fridge is built into the cabinetry and is unique as some of our amenities, such as our Limited Edition Gold SMEG toaster. LIVING SPACE: Enjoy lounging in our open space living room area, reading a book, gathering around for some games or enjoying a movie night on our 60” Smart TV, equipped with many Apps including: Netflix, Hulu, Amazon Prime, Peacock. Feel free to log into your account. You may also enjoy playing a record on our turn table from our record collection. Our West Elm TV console is filled with books, records, board games, cards and our living room space has tons of art, photography, music books. Enjoy! BEDROOM 1: AKA our PRIMARY BEDROOM: Fall into our comfortable King bed with an en suite bathroom with a shower and french doors opening to our back courtyard for that fresh ocean breeze. BEDROOM 2: Featuring a comfortable Queen bed and also has it’s own french doors opening to our back courtyard area. BEDROOM 3: AKA “The Kid Room” boasts (2) single beds. Perfect for kiddos or even two adults and conveniently located just off of the main living space/kitchen/dining area. HALLWAY / PANTRY: Our small hallway leads you from the front of the home to the back of home (to bedrooms 1 & 2) and out to our back courtyard area (accessible from either or both bedrooms). Our Hallway is where you will find our “Pantry”, complete with shelving where you’ll find a microwave, various kitchen supplies, appliances and trays, etc. and space to hide away your groceries. **Our additional/2nd Bathroom is located in the hallway between Bedrooms two and three and has a shower/tub combination. *Ask about our complimentary supplies provided for you during your visit*. GARAGE / AKA Laundry / AKA Gym / AKA Beach Storage: *We only use our garage for our beach gear, bicycles, laundry, gym and our freezer. *Please inquire about our inventory of supplies but we generally have the following items: *(4) adult bicycles, a beach wagon, chairs, umbrella, beach towels, tar remover, a variety of beach toys, etc. **Professional Gym equipment provides a small “private gym” space for you during your vacation. **Stand up Washer / Dryer **Freezer *Due to our constantly changing inventory of items and items we gain along the way, we do not promise any specific items to be available. It’s best to ask what our current inventory is leading up to your arrival date. OUTDOOR COURTYARD: Enjoy the fresh ocean breeze on our back courtyard area while BBQing, sitting around our West Elm patio table which easily seats 6 (also has an umbrella), or sitting under the stars sipping wine and engaging in conversation with friends. We also have a couple of comfortable lounge chairs and seating areas to enjoy your morning coffee while reading your favorite book, planning your day trips or just taking an afternoon siesta. HEADING OUT FOR A DAY BY THE OCEAN: **As you exit our front door (or garage), you can walk 2 minutes in either direction and you’ll see the sand. We are one street in from Ocean Dr. Turning left will also take you to some super fun sand dunes that kiddos and adults alike like to play on and roll down. **Load up our beach cart with all of your gear, beach towels, insulated picnic basket and get ready for a day in the sun. Don’t forget your sunblock! Please be mindful to pack in / pack out and bring all trash with you to help keep our beaches clean. Just remember to take your shoes off at the door and to check for naturally occurring tar. Once back to the home, please go straight to our back patio to rinse off your sandy feet. Guest access Our entire home and patio is yours to enjoy save for any small amount of locked cabinets where we store our home supplies. Other things to note Tucked between the entertainment Mecca of Los Angeles and the flourishing wine country of the Santa Ynez Valley lies one of the best kept secrets along California’s famous coastline. The coastal neighborhood of Hollywood Beach, once prized by Old Hollywood for its ability to mimic desert locales in silent films, served as a haven from the overwhelming bustle of Tinseltown. As many stars of the Golden Era began to vacation and build summer homes here and the neighboring stretches of Silver Strand, the area took on the aptly titled nickname “Hollywood-by-the-Sea”. It was the ideal spot that felt worlds apart from the city, while only being a short distance from LA by car. Thankfully, this secret spot still retains much of the solace and secluded charm that made it a haven nearly a century ago. Though silver screen royalty like Charlie Chaplin and Clark Gable no longer walk the paths lining the sand, it’s not uncommon to find movies filming nearby, or to spot the occasional A-lister dwelling peacefully away from the paparazzi laden stretches of nearby Malibu. For all the pomp and circumstance that precedes the SoCal reputation, you’ll find that at its core, Hollywood Beach is a laid-back community with a rich history that stands as one of California‘s most understated coastal gems. Our location also happens to be an ideal hub for many of the best day trips in the SoCal area. You’re as close to hundreds of Santa Ynez wineries as you are to LA’s entertainment capital, Universal Studios. If nature is more your thing, a quick drive north will set you in the quaint town of Ojai, right outside the Los Padres National Forest. Or you could simply step out the door and charter a local ferry to explore the Channel Islands located just off the coast. As tourism booms throughout southern California, travelers are striving to find places that can lead to genuine experiences, areas where they can feel like locals instead of tourists, or sometimes just a place of tranquil respite to get some honest, meaningful work done.
