At Cougar Ridge, you'll find peace and tranquility on this easily accessible ~20 acres of Terlingua Ranch. Enjoy watching the sun rise over Red Bluff Mountain and the Chihuahuan Desert and marveling at the limitless expanse of stars visible at night in this Dark Sky-designated area. Conveniently located 20 minutes to the Ghost Town and Big Bend National Park, you'll have the best of all worlds with privacy, easy access from (the very quiet!) Hwy 118, AND the beauty of miles of desert! The space The cabin is on the grid, fully electric, with running water and complete indoor plumbing to meet all your needs during your stay. ~ Starlink wi-fi available throughout the house and immediately outside ~ Large windows in main rooms provide views of the mountains; blackout curtains can be closed for darkness or privacy ~ Mini split A/C and heat ~ Ceiling fans ~ One covered parking space ~ Bedroom: • Queen bed with Tempur-Pedic mattress and both memory foam and traditional pillows • Dresser, luggage racks, and clothes rod/hangers for storage ~ Kitchen: • Full size fridge • Microwave • Hot plate • Toaster • Coffee maker • Pots, pans, plates, bowls, glasses, coffee mugs, wine glasses, utensils, etc. ~ Living room: • Futon (sleeps 1 child or short adult) • Bar height dining table and stools ~ Bathroom: • Shower with handheld sprayer • Towels and wash rags provided • Body wash, shampoo, conditioner, and hand soap provided ~ Exterior: • Solar lights (motion activated or dusk to dawn) • Chairs and table • Firepit • Shed available for secure storage ~ Plants and animals: • The property is dotted with native desert plants, and in blooming season, you can catch multiple flower colors on the cacti! • This area of Terlingua Ranch is affectionately known as "Jackass Flats." You may receive a spontaneous visit from the friendly local herd of burros! • Other native wildlife, including deer, kangaroo mice, jackrabbits, roadrunners, coyotes, etc. may be observed. Guest access ~ You'll have access to the entire ~20-acre property (please respect marked property lines). ~ Guests have access to Terlingua Ranch Lodge amenities, including: • Pool • Laundromat • Restaurant (call for current rates) ~ A printed guide with helpful resources and links/info for local establishments is provided for your convenience. Other things to note ~ In the desert, all resources are precious! We ask that you help conserve water and electricity as much as possible. ~ YOU MUST BRING YOUR OWN DRINKING WATER. ~ Excessive electricity usage (EV charging, crypto mining, etc.) is not allowed. ~ Cougar Ridge is about 45-60 minutes south of Alpine, TX, and there is no cell phone coverage for most of the drive. We will provide you the address and landmarks to look for, and we recommend you screenshot or capture the directions before you leave the service area. ~ Cougar Ridge has direct access from Hwy 118. We have a gravel driveway for your convenience and a 4-WD/high clearance vehicle is not required.
