The space ABOUT THIS SPACE Wake up in Balgüe to breezy mornings, sweeping volcano views, and the gentle sounds of farm life. The Butterfly House is a cozy, solar-powered hilltop retreat with A/C, fast Wi-Fi, and hammocks for lazy afternoons. Perched above the village, it offers cooler temperatures, fewer insects, and a peaceful escape surrounded by nature. Inside, you’ll find comfort and charm. The master bedroom has air conditioning, a queen bed, and a full bed — perfect for couples or families. A second bedroom with bunk beds and fans is great for kids or extra guests. The kitchen is fully equipped and overlooks the garden, while the bathroom features both an indoor shower with volcano views and a refreshing outdoor shower under the open sky. Outside, life moves at a slower pace. Watch goats, donkeys, and chickens grazing just beyond your porch. Pick fresh mangoes, bananas, or avocados in season. Relax in hammocks, sip coffee as butterflies and hummingbirds visit the flowers, or set out to explore nearby hiking trails, kayaking spots, and cafés in Balgüe. If the Butterfly House is booked, ask about our Vista View and Kingfisher House nearby. Guest access Listed price includes 2 adults (any children younger than 10 years are included in the base price), but as guests renting the house get access to the entire house, we have extra space for friends and family for an additional USD $10 per person per night. We have lots to do on the farm-you can walk with our farmhand to pick eggs for breakfast from our free-range hens, and even try milking our goat and then making cheese. It is incredibly yummy. Our garden is entirely organic and full of tropical fruits and vegetables to enjoy. Other things to note Stay on a peaceful, off-the-beaten-path farm in the tropical forest, just minutes from horse riding, hiking trails, and quiet beaches. Meet the friendly Nicaraguans who care for the farm and make your visit unforgettable. Soak in sweeping views of Lake Nicaragua and both volcanoes from the spacious balcony, where a near-constant breeze keeps insects away. Wake to the sounds of monkeys, parrots, goats, and the occasional rooster. Pick fruit straight from the trees, milk a goat, or gather your own eggs for breakfast. Our home runs entirely on solar power, and we live sustainably—recycling, reusing, composting, and using only natural pest sprays made from garlic, onion, and chile peppers. This is your chance to experience Ometepe’s beauty, community, and nature in one unforgettable stay.
