Description
The cottage Hermen-in-Art is located in Schankweiler in the beautiful South Eifel. The Trierer Quereinhaus from 1836 has been lovingly restored according to the historical model, with ecological building materials such as clay, lime, hemp and solid wood. Feel the unique atmosphere of a historic house made of natural materials. Discover our artistic decorations. Relaxation can be found in the adjacent garden with terrace or in the pine wood sauna. Looking forward to seeing you soon! The space The name Hermen-in-Art refers to the old house name Hermen and is an Eifel tradition. In the post-war period, the house was occupied by 12 people. In the old oven, the bread was baked for the residents of the whole street. I tried to make the house as original as possible and left some parts unrestored so you can see the previous construction, which was extremely ecological and regional. For example, parts of the wall between the living room and bathroom consist of willow branches or other wooden bars available at the time, these were filled with stones and mortars. A small part of the kitchen blanket was also left visible, where oak woods were processed, which were wrapped with straw and clay. There is open masonry in the attic and shows us the difficult work a mason had to do at that time to get all these stones to the right shape and location. These special features mean that crumbs and dust occasionally fall out and lie around, even though they were removed before your arrival. If this disturbs, you'll certainly find another more suitable place to stay. Other things to note There are two sleeping rooms available in the house. On the 1st floor there is a bedroom with two over hundred years old single beds made of metal, in the attic the large bedroom with a traditional Eifel double bed made of oak wood, an antique single bed, also made of oak wood and a cot. The historic single bed is only suitable for smaller people or children. An old staircase leads to the attic, which is not suitable for people with walking disabilities.
