Description
The Hermen-in-Art vacation home is located in Schankweiler in the beautiful Südeifel. The Trierer Quereinhaus from 1836 was lovingly restored according to a historical model, with ecological building materials such as clay, lime, hemp and solid wood. Feel the unique atmosphere of a historic house made of natural materials. Discover our artistic decorations. Relaxation can be found in the adjoining garden with terrace or in the stone pine sauna. We look forward to your visit! The space The name Hermen-in-Art refers to the old house name Hermen and is an Eifel tradition. In the post-war period, the house was inhabited by 12 people. The bread for the residents of the whole street was baked in the old oven. I tried to make the house as original as possible and left some parts intentionally unrestored so that you can see the earlier construction, which was extremely ecological and regional. For example, parts of the wall between the living room and bathroom are made of willow branches or other wooden rods available at the time, which were filled with stones and mortar. A small part of the kitchen ceiling was also left visible. Oak wood was processed here, which was wrapped with straw and clay. In the attic there is open masonry and shows us the difficult work that a bricklayer had to do at that time to get all these stones in the right shape and position. These peculiarities mean that crumbs and dust fall out and lie around every now and then, although they were removed before your arrival. If this bothers you, you will certainly find another more suitable accommodation. Other things to note The house has two bedrooms. On the 1st floor there is a bedroom with two single beds made of metal that are over a hundred years old. In the attic there is the large bedroom with a traditional Eifel double bed made of oak, an antique single bed, also made of oak and a children's bed. The historic single bed is only suitable for smaller people or children. An old staircase leads to the attic, which is not suitable for disabled people.
