Similar to the Washington DC Capitol Building, but a bit taller and much richer in detail. Formerly it was the seat of the Cuban Congress but since 1959 it has housed the Cuban Academy of Sciences and the National Library of Sciences and Technology; and next to Capitolio, Havana´s most exorbitant neo-baroque structure, The Gran Teatro Alicia Alonso, which resembles a confection in stone.
