“Absolutely beautiful stay. Such gracious hosts and five * plus” A Sawday’s Special Place to Stay Applegarth House, is an elegant house, less than 5 minutes from the M74, yet is so quiet and peaceful. There's 2 luxurious en-suite double rooms "Annan" is the largest. Perfect for weary travellers as dinner is offered by pre-booking and complimentary drinks beforehand with Andrew and Kirsteen. They both love welcoming guests to their home. Dogs welcome but not upstairs or in bedrooms. The space Applegarth is a gracious Georgian house, and once the Manse (Vicarage) to the pretty Applegarth Church beside it. Elegantly furnished with lovely antique furniture and paintings, it is the home of Andrew and Kirsteen Michell. The entrance Hall opens onto the main hall where a sweeping shallow stepped staircase winds upstairs to 2 double rooms. The Hall is brightly lit by a window and skylight making the house bright and welcoming. A grand piano awaits anyone who'd like to play! “Dryfe is a a lovely room with views to the west overlooking the Annadale Hills. It has fabulously comfortable King size bed made up with crisp white Egyptian sheets. The bed is standard length and has a foot frame. The en-suite has a bath and a fabulous rain shower over the bath as well as a handheld shower. A walk-in shower is available but not en suite. White fluffy towels are provided. A tray with a kettle and a wide selection of teas and coffee with biscuits is laid up in the room. Each double room has a TV. Single rooms are only bookable with one of the double rooms. "Annan" is a more spacious room and has a Super King size bed and is also listed on this site. There are also two single rooms available but only let with one of the doubles. There is a large, lovely garden to enjoy. Guest access Apart from refreshments in the bedroom, Andrew and Kirsteen provide all meals and drinks either in the drawing room or dining room. The kitchen is not accessible to guests. Applegarth is licensed so alcohol can be sold at a very reasonable price. £15-£20 for a bottle of wine. Guests can help themselves to drinks and there is an honesty book. Both the formal drawing room and family sitting room (where there is a TV) are available for guests to relax in. If there is just one couple staying - candle-lit d inner is served candle intimately in the bay window of the drawing room. The dining room is available when there are more guests Andrew and Kirsteen often host dinner when there are guests who don't know each other or with their regular visitors - of which there are many! It often turns into a very jolly dinner party! During your stay Andrew and Kirsteen pride themselves in being the consummate hosts. Guests are made to feel very welcome in their lovely home. They aim to provide a friendly, relaxing and extremely comfortable place to stay. Enjoy complimentary drinks before dinner with them. We are sensitive to how sociable our guests wish to be. However many depart as friends and return year after year. Other things to note We aim to provide a wonderful bespoke experience when staying at Applegarth House. Its standard is the equivalent of 5 stars. We are “people people” and our style is warm and friendly. Well behaved dogs are welcome (we have two labradors) but not upstairs. They can either sleep with the labs or separately. We offer tea with cakes and homemade scones on arrival in our elegant drawing room or in the garden. You are also invited to join us with complimentary drinks before dinner with canapès Dinner is £30 a head for a 2-course dinner – a proposed menu is sent in advanced once any dietary requirements are established. Full Scottish breakfast or any variation is served alongside cereals, fruit and yoghurt as well as toast and croissants. We sees many return visitors and many become friends.
