Outside, to the back of the barn, relax and eat al fresco at the table and chairs on the south-facing sun terrace – there’s plenty of space and two reclining sun loungers for when the weather’s good enough for sunbathing; and if it’s not, snuggle up with one of the Welsh blankets or a sheepskin. The rear terrace gets sun from sunrise to late afternoon, after which take your drinks to the front terrace to watch the sun setting over the Irish Sea for the last few hours of sun as it goes down to the west. The Plant Room, which is adjacent to the terrace, houses the boiler and washing machine as we as having space to store wet coats and muddy boots. Also in there you will find a barbecue/firepit next to either cook on or enjoy an outside log fire. Bikes and other equipment can be kept to the front of the barn or if the weather’s bad there is space for you to store them in our other garage-style barn directly in front of Polly's Barn. There is designated parking either at the top of the track or directly outside the barn (depending on car suitability) – remember to close the gate after you otherwise the sheep, who roam wild around the area, come in to the grounds! Please note mobile phone network coverage can be patchy. The barn is fully covered by WiFi but sometimes this can be affected by wet and windy weather! The barn is next to our house, separated by a beautiful ancient Sycamore tree, giving you the benefit of us being on hand to answer any questions and provide information on the local area and activities. However, the barn has its own access and, despite it being next to our house, it offers complete seclusion and we respect guests' privacy if you prefer not to have any contact. We have two Welsh border collie dogs and two ponies who will occasionally come to the fence close to the barn. The barn is in the Pembrokeshire Coast National Park and adjacent to common ground on which sheep, cattle and horses roam freely and are frequent visitors up our track and the green lane behind the barn. You might also be lucky enough to see snakes, slow worms, lizards, a wealth of birds including red kites, buzzards and woodpeckers and all of Pembrokeshire’s mammalian wildlife around the barn. Sustainability: we aim to limit our impact on the environment as far as possible. Our shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand wash, washing up liquid and laundry liquid are supplied by Faith in Nature, who make products from natural ingredients that are cruelty free and vegan in reusable recycled plastic or aluminium bottles. We aim to reduce plastic waste as far as possible and the bottles are refilled rather than recycled. Our dishwasher tables are also made from natural ingredients. The milk we provide is bought directly from Carn Ingli Dairy and is unhomogenised, meaning the milk is preserved in its natural state and uses less energy in production. Prices include: All heating, electricity and water – underfloor heating throughout. Bed made up for your arrival. Bath and hand towels for each guest, bath mat Shampoo, conditioner, body wash and hand wash Beach towels. Tea towels, oven gloves. Complimentary basket of logs (and the option to refill your basket for a small fee). Store cupboard essentials to start you off including tea, coffee, milk, sugar, salt & pepper, oil & vinegar, soap, toilet roll, washing up liquid, dishwasher tablets and laundry liquid. Everything you need for a picnic: picnic basket, picnic blanket, coolie bag with ice block, thermos and binoculars. Useful things provided at Polly's Barn include full details about where to eat and drink, where to shop, local places to see and attractions to visit, OS Maps, Coast to Coast Newspaper from Pembrokeshire Coast National Park, visitors book, important numbers and information on local events. Guest access You’ll have the whole property to yourself as well as sole use of the front and rear terraces and access to the beautiful meadows front and back. As the property is in a rural, moorland location, access is up an off-road track, just off the Mountain West road. There are various options for access and parking depending on the suitability of the guests' car and confidence in driving off the tarmac road. There is space on the grass either side of the bottom of the track which can be used for parking and then access to the barn is a short 30 second walk up the track. Alternatively, guests can drive up the track and park in the designated parking space at the front of our house. Further parking can be had through a double gate from the track to a gravelled parking area in front of the barn. This access involves a tight turn and steep rise so we ask guests to assess whether their car is suitable before attempting this access, which is at their own risk. Other things to note The bustling town of Newport is a lovely 20 minute walk, or less than 5 minute drive, away. Newport sits on the mouth of the Nevern estuary and has the beautiful Newport Sands beach nearby as well as the “Parrog”, or seafront at the bottom of town with access to a small beach at low tide, a boat club with bar and superb walks along the coast path. The town is packed with shops, cafés and pubs and boasts a small supermarket, a butchers, wholefood shop with deli counter, bakery, post office and hardware store. There are 4 pubs, three cafes, two restaurants, a host of artisan and gift shops, an art gallery and a weekly market every Monday morning attracts a range of local crafts and food suppliers. Polly's Barn is for two people only but we can offer wild camping our land for a small nightly fee if you wish to extend your party as long as you are happy for them to share your bathroom. We welcome couples with an infant and can provide a travel cot with bed linen and high chair set up for your arrival (please request when booking). Polly's Barn is not suitable for toddlers or older children.
