L'Annexe is a comfortable, cosy and romantic cottage situated on the edge of the scenic village of Mons, right on a walking trail that leads to the Gorges d'Héric or up the Caroux mountain. It's 10 minute walk down to heart of the village where there are several restaurants, a café, a grocery store, tourism office and a weekly market. From the Kitchen-living space you have direct access to the paved patio under the vines and kiwi tree. The shared, unheated pool is open from April till October. The space The cottage is part the Mas de la Costete, which in a previous life was a silk worm farm along with several dwellings. The complex goes back to the 17th Century and the foundations are carved out of the rock. It was lovingly restored in 2020 in keeping with the local building style and materials like limewash, travertine, salvage wood and polished concrete. There's a private access gate via an old donkey trail (now a renowned walking path) on the right hand side of the property, or alternatively via the main gate of the Mas off the parking lot a short walk through the grounds. Due to its age and hillside location, there are several different levels and stairs in both the garden and the property which might seem odd for those more accustomed to newbuilts but it's all part of the ancient charm really. Once through the door of the property, you step right into the large kitchen diner with ample counter space, electric oven and hob, nespresso, kettle, dishwasher, retro fridge freezer and several other basics. There's even a cocktail making set if you feel like it! There's a large antique farm table, chairs and a seating banquette with plenty of cushions. Outside the kitchen you'll find your private terrace with bistro table and chairs as well as a couple of deck chairs for relaxing and enjoying the stunning mountain views. Through a doorway you will find the large bedroom with a double bed (160cm), wardrobe, clothes rack and a threeseater sofa which transforms to a double bed should the need arise. From the kitchen you take the stairs to the lower ground floor where the bathroom is situated. It has a large sink, walk in rainshower, separate toilet and ample storage space. There's even a hairdryer. Adjoining to the bathroom, there's the washing machine and a drying rack. Central heating is available in all rooms, as well as a towel dryer in the bathroom. The house is half underground on the lower level meaning it stays remarkably cool in the warmer months. Even so, we provide a portable fan in the bedroom. A mosquito light is also available. Both the house and its immediate surrounding are very peaceful and quiet, helping you to relax almost immediately. Nevertheless, there's plenty of things to do in Mons and nearby in pretty much all seasons, from outdoor activities like biking, canyoning or rafting to concerts and flea markets. The Med is a 50 minute drive away through some amazing vineyards. We are always available to answer any questions you might have about the cottage or the area. Guest access The cottage and its patio are situated in the grounds of the Mas yet are completely private. You might cross paths with the owners in the grounds if you enter via the parking lot. During the summer months, you can enjoy use of the shared pool. Other things to note The garden is not fully fenced and gives out onto the open countryside at the back, a pet could potentially climb the walls and escape.
