This charming 7 bedroom riverside historic country house comfortably accommodates up 16 guests in up 12 beds (6S & 6D). The house can be extended to around 20 guests with sofa beds. With the cottages , (available seperately) it is possible to accommodate many more. There is a large dining room and drawing room and a former church on the property can be used as a large function room . The house has river frontage and large gardens with walks along the Shannon river. The space 🌿 PARTEEN‑A‑LAX – ABOUT THE ESTATE Parteen‑A‑Lax is a BEAUTIFUL SINGLE‑STOREY PERIOD HOUSE on the banks of the RIVER SHANNON. The estate has strong links to the O’BRIEN CHIEFTAINS, having been built by the son of WILLIAM SMITH O’BRIEN, a leader of the Young Ireland movement and a direct descendant of BRIAN BORU, HIGH KING OF IRELAND. The house has remained in the O’Brien family line ever since. Architecturally, it is a UNIQUE AND ECCENTRIC GEM, created by DONOUGH O’BRIEN. It has inspired several well‑known artists from the O’Brien family, including DERMOT O’BRIEN, whose work features in the National Gallery, as well as CICELY O’BRIEN and GERALDINE O’BRIEN, who painted from her studio in the house. The property sits between the TAIL RACE FROM THE ARDNACRUSHA POWER STATION and the RIVER SHANNON, and is screened from nearby Limerick City by THOMAS’S ISLAND, despite being less than a mile away. Fishing is available on the river, with SALMON, TROUT, AND PIKE commonly caught. ST PATRICK’S, the former Church of Ireland parish church, served the Parteen community until the 1950s. It was purchased by the O’Brien family in the 1990s and is currently under renovation. The church is available as a FUNCTION ROOM FOR UP TO 75 GUESTS. The GARDENS AND GROUNDS ARE UNDERGOING RESTORATION. After a period of neglect, work is now underway to return the estate to its FORMER SPLENDOUR. Guest access 🌿 PARTEEN‑A‑LAX – HOUSE ACCESS & GUEST POLICY Guests may use ALL AREAS OF THE MAIN HOUSE AND GARDENS, including the KITCHENS, DINING ROOM, DRAWING ROOM, and all outdoor spaces. The CHURCH (a former Church of Ireland parish church) is available for FUNCTIONS ON REQUEST. This is a PET‑FRIENDLY, NON‑SMOKING HOUSE. COTS AND SPARE BEDS can be set up in unlisted rooms if needed. Please note: due to recent issues, NON‑RESIDENT GUESTS ARE NOT PERMITTED on the property without prior permission. If a booking triggers the profile of an UNAUTHORISED PARTY, in the interests of our neighbours, we may require: • NAMES OF ALL GUESTS BEFORE CHECK‑IN • A SECURITY DEPOSIT • SECURITY MONITORING OF ALL ARRIVALS during the booking period Any breach of these conditions will result in IMMEDIATE CANCELLATION OF THE BOOKING WITHOUT REFUND. Other things to note 🏡 ABOUT THE HOUSE The main house is a HISTORIC HOMESHARE with character and ongoing restoration. For whole‑house bookings, THE FAMILY AND DOGS VACATE THE PROPERTY.
