This is a charming riverside historic country house able to sleep 20 guests in 7 rooms (with 4 bathrooms). With the cottage (available seperately) and extra beds, it is possible to accommodate 30+ people comfortably. There is a large dining room and drawing room . A former church on the property (available seperately) can be used as an extra function room seating around 75 comfortably. The house has river frontage and large gardens with walks along the Shannon river. See website for more. The space This is a beautiful single storey period house on the banks of the River Shannon. It has strong links to the O'Brien chieftains, being built by the son of the Young Ireland Leader, William Smith O'Brien, himself a direct descendant of Brian Boru, the High King of Ireland and passed on down through his direct family line since. Apart from the significant history associated with this house, it is a unique architectural gem, built by the eccentric Donough O'Brien and has inspired famous artists from the O'Brien family, such as Dermot O'Brien whose art dominates the National Gallery, Cicely O'Brien and Geraldine O'Brien who painted from her studio in the house. The House is sandwiched between the tail race from the Ardnacrusher Power Station and the River Shannon, and is protected from sight of Limerick City Centre - less than 1 mile away - by Thomas's Island. Fishing is also available on the River Shannon, where Salmon, Trout and Pike are popular catches. St Patrick's is a de-consecrated Church of Ireland church that served the Parteen community until the 1950s. It was sold to the O'Briens in the 1990s and is under renovation. It is available as a function room that can seat and entertain up to 75 guests. The gardens and grounds are currently being renovated. The house was neglected for a while and work is underway to restore the estate to its former splendour. Guest access Guests may use all public areas of the house and gardens. This includes the kitchens, the dining room and the drawing room. Other things to note This is a pet friendly non smoking house. There are plenty of cots and spare beds that can be set up in unlisted rooms to accomodate extra guests. The house is newly listed and currently modestly furnished. Takings from AirBnb will enable us to improve the features and amenities. Please accept this as a work in progress and the opportunity to stay in a truly unique period house.
