Description
Welcome to Casita Bonnechere, a rustic tiny cabin located along the Bonnechere river, just outside of Douglas Ontario (home of the Leprechaun!). Very private, this is the perfect opportunity to reconnect to nature and enjoy a peaceful, revitalizing getaway (1 hr from Ottawa). It is a wonderful place to curl up by the wood stove and read a book, lay in a hammock looking up in the trees, swim in a slow river, go for a walk, kayak, stargaze, or relax by the water watching birds and dragonflies. The space Casita Bonnechere is located by the river in a pine forest. You'll drive in through a long private driveway and park right outside. It's about 100 meters from the main house where there are people living year round, so we do ask you to stay and play away from the house. The Casita itself has a loft double bed, a tiny bridge to a small single bed, and if you don't do heights or can't do ladders, the couch is a pull out. :) There's a small kitchenette with a toaster, many ways to make coffee, a microwave and an induction plate. Outside in the summer cookhouse, there is running safe drinking water (hot and cold), a small air fryer/oven, and a BBQ. The kitchen is well stocked with what you will need to prepare and serve food. We have a little outdoor shower for your exclusive use. There is a small outhouse with a composting toilet steps from the cabin for your convenience. There's a wood stove in the cabin should the nights be cold -- be warned, it can really heat up the tiny space! There are no outdoor fires permitted, unfortunately. Sheets, pillows, blankets and towels are provided for 2. Coffee, hot cocoa and tea are also available for your use. The Bonnechere river is about 100 meters from the Casita and is surrounded by pines and farmland. While it is both remote and private, it is also about an 8 minute walk to a small local convenience store and the local beach is down the river. Note that it's the country and people enjoy the public beach, so you may hear families playing, teens listening to music, occasional cars and ATVs. Basically, it's the country. If you need complete seclusion, are afraid of spiders, have no idea what poison ivy is and want wifi (we do have good cell signal though if you do need to be connected), this is probably not the best option for your getaway. Enjoy swimming off the small private dock into the clean quiet Bonnechere river, float or walk downstream to a little public beach if you are feeling more social or want shallow beach for little ones. Canoes, kayaks, tubes, paddles and life jackets available for your safe enjoyment, with pulleys to walk them to the beach for easier entry. Those who like to fish often enjoy boat or dock fishing on the river. The river is very alive with dragonflies, birds, bats, frogs, fish, etc. At night you can often hear frogs, cows and coyotes. Guest access You'll have full access to the Casita, cookhouse, dock and the land on the side of the property you drove in on (beach side). Please stay away from the main residence. Other things to note If you need all the amenities of a hotel or have very young children who wander into the woods, this is probably not your place. If a bit more rustic, very wild and nature-filled is more your thing, this may be the perfect little getaway! I'm happy to answer any questions you may have before booking. Note that there are no pets allowed, but we have our dog up at the Casita from time to time, so if you have allergies to pets, this will not be ideal. If you have a furry friend who you NEED to have by your side, be in touch and we can discuss whether this may be possible. This is a small place, generally suited to 1-3 people. Depending on your family/party composition, we can make exception to the 2 person limitation. Feel free to reach out and ask!
