Located in Reva, VA. Winter Weather: The Crooked Tree Cabin is located off of a rural, gravel road and has a steep driveway. If present, snow and/ or ice could prevent access to the cabin. Our primary home is just downhill on a farm that adjoins the cabin property. An Appalachian respite. This c. 1830 log cabin was originally built in Bedford County, PA. During 2022 it was carefully dismantled, restored and re-erected in Virginia, 25 miles from Shenandoah National Park. Named The Crooked Tree Cabin, it was re-built by the same Virginia-based team of craftsmen who were awarded historical re-construction contracts at Thomas Jefferson’s Monticello, James Madison’s Montpelier and George Washington’s boyhood home, Ferry Farm. Tucked away in a forest of mature chestnut oak, maple, hickory, and poplar trees, it awaits you to add to its history. Walk on the same flooring as others did 200 years before you. All windows in this secluded cabin enjoy a view of nature. Firewood is provided seasonally, September - March. During those months, with each reservation, complimentary supplies for building two fires are provided: logs, fatwood (fire starter sticks), long-reach matches and fireplace tools. Additional supplies can be found seasonally at local stores including Exxon Gas Station (11113 James Monroe Hwy, Culpeper), The Ole Country Store & Bakery (18019 Country Store Dr, Culpeper) and Safeway Grocery (309 Southgate Shopping Center, Culpeper). No keys to lose or to return. This property provides secure, keyless entry with an August Smart Lock. Using an outdoor keypad, you can lock and unlock the cabin using the personal entry code issued to you for the duration of your stay. The cabin does not have a back-up power source such as a generator. (The cabin does have a wood-burning fireplace.) There is no grill or fire pit on the property . As an Airbnb host, I am required to disclose the presence of a firearm on this property. Over the cabin’s mantle, a gun is displayed. More information is below: 1) The firearm is over 100 years old; 2) It is unloaded; 3) There is no ammo in the cabin nor on the cabin’s property; 4) The firing ability of the gun has been disabled; 5) The gun is secured to the log wall using a locking, gun cable; and 6) The key to the locking, gun cable is stored off-site. Two persons maximum. The cabin is surrounded by trees and wildlife. So, seasonally, you may see the occasional woodland visitor (such as a harmless stink bug) even though we maintain the cabin with great care. *The cabin’s Starlink router is plugged into an Uninterruptible Power Supply (UPS) System, “CyberPower CP900AVR”. This UPS was the 2024 top, recommended pick by The New York Times’ Wirecutter website, “With five outlets on battery backup and 10 outlets total, this UPS can reliably keep your Wi-Fi network running for up to four hours in a blackout or keep your home-office setup powered long enough for you to save your work and shut down.” - Wirecutter.
