Description
Camp Idlewild is an overnight camp for children during July. Other months, we provide temporary housing for temporary workers coming to the area, as there are no hotels in the area. The extra income keeps our camper rates low. We have hosted temporary workers for over 10 years in our various staff lodging facilities. This listing is for the Rec. Building, where the kids have canteen, play ping pong, air hockey, etc. during the camp sessions. It is not luxurious, just habitable and cheap. The space There is no kitchen. There is a microwave, and a drink cooler that serves as your refrigerator, plus there is a small chest freezer. There is no proper kitchen sink. You will have to use the sinks in the bathrooms for any washing up. We recommend that you go by the Dollar General that is 1 mile away and get some paper plates, plastic utensils, and red solo cups. There is a drip coffee maker. Currently, you need to bring your own TV. We may get one there within the next few weeks. You will also need to bring your own bed linens and towels. There’s a queen size bed and a single bed. Remember, this is not a vacation home. It is just a quiet inexpensive place for you to stay while working your out-of-town job. There are five other buildings containing lodging at the camp, so usually there will be other temporary workers on the campus. Guest access You will have the whole building to yourself. The camp is on about 65 acres and you are free to wander around it. You will be able to pull your vehicle right up to the door of the rec building. Other things to note If you are afraid of spiders, lizards, the occasional black snake, and generally have to have things just so or you feel compelled to write nasty reviews, please look elsewhere. There aren’t many places to stay in Surry County. Don’t book this unless you need it for convenience to your job and you want to save money by getting our rates rather than paying somebody else twice or three times as much per night. Over the years, we’ve had temporary workers who have fought over who gets to rent the rec building. We’ve had other people who took one look and left. Please figure out which group you are likely to be among and if you think this place will suit you, that’s great. There’s nothing wrong with the beds.
