Sitting 125 feet from the east shore of Echo Lake is the Nest at Camp Skoglund. A cozy cottage for two with all of the amenities you will need. Your deck provides a wooded view of the lake and we offer a fully equipped waterfront for your relaxation and fun on the water. If you require lodging for more than two, please inquire. We are open seasonally, starting in early June until Columbus Day. Our 60 year old camp (formerly run as a boys camp) offers a family atmosphere where you will have a true woodland experience in the best lake district Maine has to offer. The coast, the mountains, Portland and Freeport are approximately an hour’s drive. Most of our guests have returned every summer for decades and we always have a very happy and friendly atmosphere. Owned by the same family for over 60 years - we love what we do. The entire camp is available for your use. Fire pits, docks, boats, kayaks - we are fully equipped for the ultimate Maine experience. We have several docks for swimming and boating which you will share with other guests. Private spaces are easy to find too! The occupancy of the Nest is two and no other guests are permitted at any time. I live onsite and am available to help with anything my guests may need. We are at the edge of the Belgrade Lakes - home to the story of the famous movie "On Golden Pond". We are also close to the lovely Maine town of Hallowell with antique shops and great restaurants. Some dining suggestions are: The Apple Shed in Kent’s Hill is a must for baked goods and may other things, including a good selection of prepared meals, dips, snacks, etc. It's very close to camp so easy for quick trips. The Fayette General Store has good food as well as limited groceries. It’s usually our go-to place for pizza. The General Store in Readfield is also a close stop for needed grocery items. Sitting on the outdoor patio at Belgrade Lakes Golf Club is a wonderful lunch spot (limited menu - lobster rolls unless they have run out!) where you can look out over the spectacular lakes. Not just for golfers! Next to Augusta is Hallowell - a lovely small town on the banks of the Kennebec River. A number of great restaurants are there- including the Liberal Cup, Slates, the Quarry Tap Room, and Burano’s Woodfired Pizza. Fast Eddie’s in Winthrop is a fun outdoor (and indoor) restaurant with good fried seafood and everything else. Classic Car night is on Wednesdays! Tubby’s in Wayne is a cute spot and has wonderful homemade ice cream along with limited lunch and dinner food. The Weathervane in Readfield is the closest spot for dinner - it’s been there for decades and is pretty reliable for good food. Maine Cabin Master Fans!! The Kennebec Cabin Company in Manchester (you probably passed it on the way in) is their headquarters and is a very fun place to visit. Good food, a cute shop, and there is usually something fun going on. For produce in season: Lakeview Orchards in Manchester is also excellent (apple cider donuts!). There is a farm stand on Route 41 between Manchester and Readfield that is quite good too. The Nest is part of a small camp community consisting of five cottages and my year round home - when staying here you will have total privacy, and also the ability to interact with other guests.
