Chicken house dome

Description

Cromen Tŷ Cyw Iâr (Chicken house dome). A slated dome is a unique building, this one looks down the Honddu and Usk valleys and you can see for 25 miles from the star window looking South East. I have reused materials as much as possible in its construction. The original henhouse was rebuilt to create the private bathroom alongside and contains a hot shower, w.c. and basin. I have created a special place for visitors to stay with their own private piece of rural Wales to enjoy. The space The dome is a cosy and really calm place to sleep, there is an electric heater that is rarely needed. We do not have blinds over the windows as the trees give a lot of shade, however there is one over the door for privacy. The water in the bathroom comes up from our house so it is a good idea to run the hot water to the basin first before getting into the shower. I have always wanted to build a geodesic dome since learning about them in my youth and finally got the time as I wound my work down to retirement. Thirty years of roofing left me with a pile of slates missing their corners and a lot of experience so I decided to cover it in slate. Brave apparently, but I'm very pleased with the result and I hope you enjoy staying here. The wi-fi is available to you but please don’t expect fast downloads, we are lucky to get 4Mb/s down here. There are some lovely walks directly from the door and Y Bannau Brycheiniog (The Brecon Beacons) are a short drive from us. It is 2½ miles to Brecon where there are pubs, restaurants, shops etc. Also the Colloseum cinema, the leisure centre and Theatr Brycheiniog. You can get a pub meal at the Pwllgloyw Arms just a mile up the road. While you will have complete privacy, our house is just a few metres away so if you have any questions while you're here please ask. Guest access You have exclusive use of the dome, its adjacent bathroom and the stretch of garden above where the table and chairs are. There is parking for one car below the dome. At night the lights come on automatically to show you the way up the steps to the front door which will be unlocked before you arrive. There is a key for your use on the ledge just inside the door, please be sure to leave it behind when you leave. I will leave tea and coffee in the dome and a pint of milk in the fridge along with something local and tasty. Other things to note The field behind the dome does not belong to us and is farmed by our neighbour. Generally it is only occupied by sheep but the odd farmer on a quad bike comes by and once a year it is cut for hay. Occasionally there is an agricultural aroma. Under the bed there is a blind for the big star window, it's a bit fiddly but will keep most of the sun out if you want a lie-in.
