Bounded by the River Wear, spectacular walks and a picture postcard village, we are here to show you the very best of Durham. The space Unbox at Poplar Tree offers a first for the North East: 4 unique lodges made from twin-linked and lovingly converted shipping containers clad in wrap-around Western Red Cedar and surrounded by extensive native and native-derivative landscaping. With floor to ceiling glazing and each with their own private, raised south / west facing entrance decks, the lodges are an incredible window onto nature with all of the home comforts you could wish for. Set in the magnificent private grounds of the fantastic Poplar Tree Garden Centre in the beautiful village of Shincliffe, the lodges benefit from over 7 acres of grassland, a mere 30 minute walk into Durham along the river, or a 5 minute drive into the heart of the city. With 24/7 private access and private on-site parking, you can either stride straight out into open countryside, sit tight and get dug in or explore the magnificent World Heritage city of Durham on the doorstep. Guest access Guests are welcomed and checked-in in person and have their own key with an access fob to provide private 24/7 access to the site. There is public transport in the form of a bus stop located in the village a short walk from the lodges and the site benefits from a number of fantastic local walks and footpaths including the incredible Weardale Way which runs straight past the main entrance to the site. Other things to note Two of our lodges are dog friendly. We charge £30 per dog per stay. We typically can only accept a maximum of 1 dog though by arrangement and if suitable with other guests, we can occasionally accept 2. Please get in touch to check if you are in any doubt.
