The Hop Field Hut

Escape the every day into beautiful Somerset and hideaway in this rustic shepherd’s hut, tucked down on our farm in a secluded location. Follow the farm track, park and cross the stream to find the hut in its own, securely fenced paddock, complete with a wood fired, stock tank hot tub, fire pit, outdoor seating and dining areas. Never mind the view! Inside the hut, there are home comforts combined with glamping novelty, to make your stay comfortable as well as memorable. @the_hopfield_hut The space This is a purpose built shepherds hut, designed with all the essentials but also a unique space with its modern rustic decor to blend with the natural surroundings and create a novel yet comfortable experience! There is a shared living space in the shepherds hut, with a king sized bed, kitchen with small fridge, gas oven and plenty of cooking equipment if you feel inclined to! There is a vintage dining table with rattan armchairs should you wish to eat inside. The bed also has an upholstered headboard where you can sit and put your feet up and look out onto the fields. However the star attraction of this retreat is the location, and we have provided an outdoor dining area, fire pit and seating to soak up the surroundings, and look out for the deer, hares, woodpeckers nesting in the ash tree and maybe even the barn owl out hunting at dusk. There is no tv or WiFi as we have designed this as a relaxing retreat where you can enjoy the beauty of the countryside and an off grid experience. However there is 4G and phone signal for most networks, and USB charging points to keep you connected to the modern world if you wish. There is a log burner to keep you cosy on colder nights and some firewood provided and more available to buy at request. There is also a separate ‘bathroom’ with a warm shower, hand basin and compost loo to add to the off grid experience! Guest access You have use of the paddock within the shepherd hut and we provide details of how you can link up with the nearby footpaths, across our farm, to walk to the nearby villages (and pubs!). Other things to note Please note the hot tub is wood fired as the retreat is ‘off grid’ and so will contain cold water that needs to be heated. Wood is provided for 2 uses and instructions on safe usage provided. It takes approximately 2-3 hours to reach a warm temperature. The heating in the hut is provided by a wood burning stove, we will provide some firewood and instructions on how to do this if it is needed. Please note the electricity is provided by solar panels that charge a battery. There is lighting, and usb charging ports however please use this judiciously as the battery is only charged during daylight hours. Remember to turn off the lights! It also means that there are no plugs for electrical items. Access to the shepherd’s hut is via a farm track, most cars can cope with this but if they are particularly low then they can be parked at the end of the track and we can transport you and your luggage to the location, or it is a 5 minute, scenic walk! Once parked there is a short walk to the hut across a stream, please wear sensible footwear as this is the countryside and a working farm. You are surrounded by fields so there may be farm vehicles or animals passing occasionally. The paddock is stock fenced with a gate, if you bring a furry friend please make sure they stay with the paddock or on a lead around livestock.
