Jägerhaus Poplze, also known as a hunting lodge or gamekeeper's lodge, has a rich history associated with important aristocratic families. Originally, this building was part of the property of the Herberstein family. The Herberstein family came to Libochovice in the mid-19th century, when Teresie Dietrichstein married Johann Friedrich of Herberstein. This marriage brought the Herberstein family the Libochovice and Budyně nad Ohří estates, which Teresie inherited from her father, Prince Josef of Dietrichstein. Jägerhaus in Poplzy served as a forestry, a center for forest and hunting management, and also as a gamekeeper's dwelling. In the 1930s, a picnic restaurant was established here and Jägerhaus became a popular picnic spot. The Herbersteins owned a lot of land and real estate not only in Bohemia, but also in Moravia and Slovenia. In 1925, as part of the land reform, their property was significantly reduced. After the Second World War, in 1945, the property of the Herbersteins, including the Jägerhaus, was nationalized and passed into the administration of the Czechoslovak state. For a few years now, this beautiful area has been owned by our family, which does business here in the Lesunion a.s. garden center, and now it has been about 4 years since it put into operation a refreshment stand, especially the main reason is the bike path that leads through the complex. Refreshments are only a seasonal affair, when in the summer months every weekend there is a barbecue and chilled pints of Pilsner on tap 🍺 Last year, the family started building apartments from a former transformer station and building a log cabin by the forest to give accommodation to cyclists and others. Our family would like to expand the accommodation here if it is within our power and possibilities. Jägerhaus and its surroundings are a magical and quiet place in the meadow forest. Hops have been grown in this area for centuries and right behind the forest you can see extensive hop gardens towards Kostelec nad Ohří and Radovesice.
