Description

Welcome to Centralia, our private cozy 1898 cabin in the heart of historic Old Bisbee! If you're heading to town for walkable events, restaurants, shopping and nightlife, you’ve found the spot. Once you park, you can forget about the car—everything’s a short walk from here. We’re steps from the Iron Man statue and close enough to the action without being too close for comfort. Need a quick bite or a drink? There are 4 restaurants super close by, and Brewery Gulch is just down the hill! The space This place has been around for 120 years- and it’s been through a lot—like all Bisbee homes, it’s got a few quirks, but we’ve updated it to keep you comfy and safe. The house has a bit of that “Bisbee lean” (you’ll see what we mean when you get here), but we call it "Bisbee Level." 😂 Cozy Vibes: We’ve added fireplace-like heaters in three rooms to keep things toasty in the cooler months. ACs go in the windows during the summer. The kitchen is complete with a refrigerator with freezer, an antique stove/ oven, a big toaster oven, and a microwave. Screened Porch: Perfect spot for your morning coffee or at the kitchen table with the hummingbirds buzzing around. It’s quiet, private, and surrounded by nature. You’ll love it. Walking Distance to Everything: The Circle K is just a quick walk for snacks or ice, and the High Desert Market is great for wine and cheese (because who doesn’t love that?). Keeping it Safe You’ll notice we don’t allow candles, incense, grills, or anything with flames. That’s because Bisbee homes are old, and most of them are made of wood—so no fire, please! We’re talking even the smallest flame is a no-go. Gummies or vape? Sure. Just no joints or bowls. It’s a bummer, we know. Wildlife & Critters Heads up: We’re in the high desert, so you might see a javelina or two around here. They aren’t friendly, so don’t leave trash outside! We also do our best to keep the creepy crawlies out, but if you see something, let us know privately. No one likes bugs, and we’re on top of it. We’re Here to Help We have all the house info in a blue binder under the television and there are manuals in the drawer or binder if you need them. There are a lot of remotes, please don't lose them. If you have any questions or need help, just let us know—we’re only a call away. We both have hospitality backgrounds, so your comfort is our priority. Oh, and please give us feedback directly instead of online shaming—we're all about fixing issues fast. So, whether you’re coming for Bisbee’s fun or just need a cozy retreat, Centralia is the perfect place. Book now and enjoy a mix of history, nature, art and bohemian attitude. Thank you for supporting our stewardship of this piece of history. Permit # 20241585 Guest access We will provide a code for the door a few days before check in. Feel free to use the whole house and yard with the exception of the back of the house and the wash. We have a sign- it's just not a place that is safe to walk. Other things to note With only six steps compared to a whopping 181, we feel lucky to have found this easily accessible gem. It’s so secluded that the U.S. Historic Register missed us! This mysterious property has likely had three different addresses since its inception between 1904 and 1906, and there are no tax records prior to 1930. It exudes great loving energy, and we decorated it as a bachelor cabin, reflecting its original intent. It is not a Sears kit. It's too early for that. It follows the classic miner cabin venacular of a kit sent with no instructions! ( E.F. Hodgson Homes?) Many long-time locals know only a small bit about it or don’t even realize it’s here. Built on three overlapping mine claims and three Indigenous territories, the house has been constructed upon several times. As for the name "Centralia," it holds a special meaning for us. We're originally from Pennsylvania, where anthracite mining was once king. A terrible accident occurred in the town of Centralia when a mine caught fire. Because anthracite coal burns the hottest and slowest, the fire still burns underground today, leaving just three residents. (Crazy, right?) We believe that fire represents an eternal flame, reminding us of the miners who worked harder than we ever could to build this home and the town we cherish. It’s important that we never forget them.
