The Location Wendover, located in Buckinghamshire, is a charming market town nestled at the foot of the Chiltern Hills. Known for its picturesque countryside and tranquil atmosphere, the town offers a blend of historic character and modern amenities. In Wendover Shops: Wendover has a selection of independent shops, including gift shops, boutiques, and specialty stores. There are also everyday conveniences like grocery stores and pharmacies. Restaurants and Cafés: In Wendover itself you have a number of cafes, plus a Tapas bar, a Gin Bar some local pubs. Some recommendations: - No. 2 wine and cheese deli Great selections of wine and cheese, not open all evenings but in the summer you can have a glass outside the deli and it's worth trying one of their cheese toasties! - Rumseys Chocolatier and Cafe Lovely handmade chocolates and decadent hot chocolates. Worth visiting in the winter for a warming hot chocolate and in the summer for a delicious ice cream. - Red Lion Pub Lovely lunch and dinner options, they have some more formal seating in the dining area as well as a less formal bar and larger outside seating area at the back. Dogs are allowed. - The Shoulder of Mutton Great easy option, not a gastro pub but have decent food and a larger outdoor area, which we found useful for young kids running around but contained. - The Craft Yard Gin bar on the main highstreet, the outdoor seating area gets the last of the sun in the summer evenings and they have a large selection of drinks. They also have a brunch and lunch menu on some days. - Tapas Bar On the pricier side, but a nice evening out with good food and good wine and sherry. You can also get delicious takeaways delivered including Pizza Pleazers (Tring) and Indian from Lobon Morees (Weston Turville). If you're up for a drive there are some fantastic local restaurants around. Most notably Crockers in Tring which offer fine dining and the Chefs table. For what you get it's a great price and is an experience we recommend not to miss. You have to book well in advance if you want an evening or a weekend, but during the week and lunches are a great option for quicker availability and more budget friendly. Nearby Attractions: - Wendover Woods: lovely walks and great activities for kids, teens and adults. They have Go Ape, Park Run on a Saturday, a fitness trail, a kids play trail and orienteering for the gruffalo. - Coombe Hill: it's a 20 - 30 minute walk up (3km), although you have to pass the ongoing HS2 works, when you're up the views are stunning and particularly beautiful at sunset. - Chiltern Hills: Wendover is a gateway to the Chiltern Hills, an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), perfect for hiking, cycling, and nature walks. - Ridgeway National Trail: One of England’s oldest walking routes passes through the area, offering scenic walks through the countryside. - Waddesdon Manor: A short drive away, this grand French Renaissance-style château is famous for its art collections, gardens, and wine cellars. - Tring: Close to Wendover, Tring offers the Natural History Museum at Tring, a unique collection of animal specimens, and a quaint high street with more shops and cafés.
