Description

Discover La Tierra del Encanto, a top-rated oceanfront jungle retreat on Isla Basti. 100 acres of protected rainforest, this private casita offers exceptional birding, waterfalls, cacao forest, and miles of trails - 20 minutes from Bocas Town, yet a world away. Guests describe it as one of the most special stays of their travels, drawn by deep quiet, immersive nature, and optional farm-to-table dining rooted in the land. Luxury here is defined by space, intention, and the freedom to slow down. The space 🛏️ The Casita & Sleeping This handcrafted jungle studio is designed for comfort, connection, and deep immersion in nature. Surrounded by forest and canopy views, the casita feels private and peaceful — a place where days follow the rhythm of the land and nights are quiet and restorative. Many guests say they sleep better here than anywhere else on their travels. Sleeping arrangements include a queen-size memory foam canopy bed (60 x 80 in) and a twin memory foam sofa mattress (39 x 75 in) that doubles as a cozy lounge during the day. For a fourth guest, a 4-inch thick standard twin memory foam mattress is provided. This mattress does not have a frame and is placed on the floor at night; during the day it can be stored neatly behind the sofa or leaned out of the way. This setup is best suited for a small, adventurous family or flexible travelers rather than four adults seeking separate sleeping spaces. 🦜 Birdlife & Daily Rhythm Birdwatchers will feel immediately at home here. La Tierra del Encanto is known for exceptional birding, and days begin and end with birdsong. Vibrant species are visible and audible throughout the day directly from the casita, garden, and nearby paths. Even non-birders quickly come to appreciate the steady rhythm and presence of wildlife woven into daily life. 🌿 Design, Light & Setting Every part of the casita was handcrafted with care, using hand-milled wood and artisan details that reflect the property’s commitment to preservation and stewardship of the land. Large glass windows can be fully closed for a sealed, quiet interior or opened with screens to invite in fresh air, light, and the subtle sounds of the jungle. The casita sits in a transitional space on the land, approached by an open pathway lined with flowers. Behind it are several large trees and a walkable yard. One side transitions directly into dense jungle, while the opposite side is bordered by a stream that flows toward the farm area. From every window, guests experience canopy views, with forest and vegetation always close by. Much of the surrounding land connects directly to national park, creating a rare sense of privacy and immersion that guests often describe as feeling like the jungle is theirs alone. 🥾 Waterfall, Trails & Nature Just a five-minute walk from the casita, a secluded waterfall offers a peaceful place for soaking and cooling off in the heart of the jungle. Guests are welcome to explore the preserved trails that wind through the property, passing rainforest, cacao forest, and a burgeoning permaculture farm before connecting directly to the neighboring national park. Despite the secluded setting, guests are often surprised by how easily Bocas del Toro’s signature tours can be accessed from here. Trails range from gentle walks to more adventurous routes, inviting exploration, observation, and unhurried time spent immersed in the living landscape that surrounds the casita. 🍳 Kitchenette & Daily Living The casita includes a well-equipped kitchenette with a stovetop (no oven), along with ample cookware, utensils, and essentials for everyday cooking. Guests staying for a week or longer regularly prepare meals here with ease and consistently find the setup more than sufficient. Meals can be enjoyed inside the casita, on the deck, or in a shared ocean-view picnic and dining area overlooking the water — a favorite place to linger at sunrise or sunset. Daily life here tends to unfold slowly and simply, shaped by light, weather, and the surrounding landscape. 🍽️ Farm-to-Table Dining (Optional) For guests drawn to intentional food and thoughtful sourcing, we offer an optional in-casita dining experience rooted in a true farm-to-table philosophy. Whenever possible, fruits, herbs, and ingredients grown right here on the land are incorporated into meals, allowing guests to taste the place they are staying. All dishes are prepared completely from scratch — including sauces, dressings, marinades, and even yogurt — using whole ingredients and traditional methods. For health and quality reasons, meals are cooked exclusively with stainless steel or cast iron cookware. Many guests describe this dining experience as a meaningful extension of their stay and a highlight of their time here. ⚡ Comfort, Water & Internet While the setting feels remote, the experience is thoughtfully designed and well supported. All utilities at La Tierra del Encanto were intentionally built and are maintained on-site by us. The casita is powered by solar energy, supplied by rainwater catchment, and equipped with reliable Starlink internet suitable for remote work, streaming, and video calls. For drinking water, the kitchen includes a reverse osmosis system with a UV-filtered faucet, providing clean, safe water. These systems allow for a more consistent and dependable experience than many parts of Bocas Town, while supporting a sustainable, low-impact lifestyle. 🦟 Living in the Jungle (With Ease) This is a true jungle environment, and the casita is thoughtfully set up to make living close to nature comfortable. All windows and doors are screened when open, a mosquito net is provided over the bed, and natural bug repellent is available for guest use. These details allow guests to remain open to the environment while feeling secure and at ease. 🐾 Animals on the Property There are a few older dogs and cats who live on the property. They are calm, accustomed to guests, and typically keep to themselves, with minimal interaction. ✨ The Experience This stay is ideal for guests seeking quiet, beauty, and a deeper connection to nature. Some guests choose to split their time between town or the beach and the jungle, while others arrive and decide there’s nowhere else they’d rather be. Many arrive expecting Bocas Town to be the destination, only to realize that the jungle is where they truly rest. La Tierra del Encanto offers space, stillness, and immersion — a place where adventure and tranquility coexist, and where the jungle becomes the destination. Guest access 🌿 Exploring the Land Guests are welcome to explore La Tierra del Encanto in its entirety, including the jungle trails, cacao forest, and permaculture areas. The property spans 100 acres and is intentionally managed as a living landscape, where forest, farm, water, and wildlife exist together. Much of the land connects directly to neighboring national park, creating a rare sense of continuity and immersion that guests often describe as feeling like they have the jungle almost entirely to themselves. 🌱 Permaculture & Cacao Areas The permaculture and cacao areas are open for guests to wander and observe. While parts of the permaculture are still establishing and not yet fully fruiting, the trees are planted and growing, offering insight into long-term regenerative land practices. Guests are welcome to spend time here at their own pace, and if we are working in the farm areas, they are always welcome to join us for conversation and to learn more about the land and our approach. 💦 Waterfall & Oceanfront Spaces A secluded waterfall for soaking and cooling off is located a short walk from the casita, tucked into the forest and ideal for quiet moments in the heat of the day. At the front of the property, the oceanfront opens to wide views and includes a shared picnic and dining space overlooking the water — a favorite place for sunrise coffee, sunset meals, and lingering with ocean breezes. 🚣‍♀️ Ocean Access & Swimming While the property is oceanfront rather than beachfront, guests have several ways to enjoy the water. Kayaks and canoes can be used to paddle out to clearer water (about 10 minutes), where swimming is more comfortable. Swimming directly off the dock is also possible; however, as throughout much of Bocas, mangroves can sometimes cause mild skin irritation, and guests are advised to rinse afterward. Jellyfish are occasionally present around the islands — typically small and mild — and are part of the natural marine environment. 🥾 Trails & Hiking Trails vary in terrain and lead through rainforest, along streams, past cacao forest and the permaculture farm, and onward into the national park. Some routes are gentle and well suited for relaxed exploration, while others are more adventurous. Guests are welcome to explore independently and are encouraged to ask for guidance on which trails best match their interests, conditions, and experience level. 🏝️ Playa Larga & Secret Beach Routes The Playa Larga and Secret Beach routes are advanced hikes intended for experienced hikers or guests accompanied by a guide. These trails cross from the property into national park land and require a brief discussion in advance to confirm conditions and whether a guide is recommended or required. The Playa Larga route travels from La Tierra del Encanto to Playa Larga before looping back through the jungle. The Secret Beach route continues along the coast past a series of quiet, lesser-known beaches before ending at Red Frog Beach, where pickup is arranged at the Red Frog dock. 🧭 Guided Walks & On-Site Experiences Guests are welcome to join any non-private guided hike or walk happening on the property at no additional cost. Private guided experiences — including waterfall walks, jungle trails, Walk of the Giants, Playa Larga, and Secret Beach — are available to guests at half the standard rate. These experiences are designed to deepen understanding of the land while keeping the pace relaxed and personal. 🚤 Tours Beyond the Property Access to Bocas del Toro’s tours is just as easy from here as it is from town — and in some cases easier. Boat captains regularly pick guests up directly from the property for bioluminescence tours, Bat Cave day or night tours, snorkeling, dolphin watching, and other island excursions. Some experiences, such as the Bat Cave and nearby permaculture tours, are actually closer from here than from Bocas Town, while Cristóbal-area tours are equidistant. Private in-house day boat tours can also be arranged. Many guests arrive expecting to stay in town first for convenience, only to realize that everything they hoped to do is easily accessible from here — with the added benefit of quieter days and far more restful nights. ⛵ Boat Transportation Boat transportation is part of daily life here. In-house boat taxi service and select excursions can be arranged directly with us, and we’re also happy to help coordinate outside providers if preferred. 🧳 Considering a Split Stay Some guests choose to split their time between the beach or Bocas Town and La Tierra del Encanto, enjoying the social energy of town before retreating into the jungle for deeper rest and immersion. Others arrive here first and decide they don’t want to leave. Both approaches work beautifully, and we’re happy to help guests plan a stay that fits their travel style. ✨ The Rhythm of Staying Here Once on site, many guests find they rarely want to leave. Between the trails, waterfall, farm areas, ocean access, and quiet shared spaces, days naturally slow down — and nights are defined by jungle sounds and deep, uninterrupted sleep. Other things to note 🧭 Getting Here Most guests arrive in Bocas Town by plane or boat. We typically arrange pickup from Bocas Town unless guests are already staying on another island. • If arriving by plane, a trusted taxi can bring you from the airport to the boat dock near town (approximately $3–$5 per person). • From Bocas Town, we provide boat transport to La Tierra del Encanto (currently $12.50 per person). • Guests arriving by private boat can be picked up from most docks. We usually recommend meeting near the grocery store by 3R Mall so guests can stock up before heading to the property. Guests are also welcome to arrange their own transportation. Clear arrival instructions and coordination details are shared in advance so the journey feels smooth and unhurried. ⸻ 🚤 Boat Taxi Pricing (Reference) Boat transportation is part of daily life here, and we’re happy to help arrange boat taxis as needed. Below is current round-trip pricing per adult, provided as a reference. Pricing may vary slightly depending on conditions, time of day, or specific arrangements. • Hospital Point Beach – $20 • Red Frog Dock – $15 • Bocas Town – $25 • Coral Cay – $30 • Wizard Beach Trailhead – $20 • Old Bank – $20 • Wizard Beach (direct, conditions permitting) – $30 • Carenero – $25 We’ll always confirm pricing in advance and help guests choose the best option for their plans. ⸻ 🍽️ Dining at La Tierra del Encanto Meals are not included, but guests may request fresh, homemade food prepared in our kitchen and delivered to the casita. Both hosts have professional restaurant experience and follow safe food-handling practices. All meals are made completely from scratch using whole ingredients, with many items sourced directly from our garden or trusted local producers. Dining is offered by request, not from a standing menu. Guests are welcome to plan meals well in advance (for example, requesting dinner for multiple nights or for the duration of their stay), or to request meals day by day within the guidelines below. When a meal is requested, we’ll respond with two options to choose from for that meal. Once an option is selected and preparation begins, we’ll let guests know well in advance when their meal will be delivered, typically providing at least an hour’s notice. Delivery timing is communicated by us once preparation is underway. • Breakfast is requested the night before, and breakfast options are shared in advance. • Lunch must be requested by 9:00 a.m., at which point lunch options are shared. • Dinner must be requested by 12:00 p.m. (noon), at which point dinner options are shared. This approach allows us to cook thoughtfully and sustainably without rushing the process or compromising quality. Guests are always welcome to use the kitchenette and place no food requests at all. Drinks can be requested at any time by message, and we’ll confirm availability. Please share any allergies or dietary preferences as early as possible so we can plan accordingly. ⸻ 🌴 Living in a Jungle Environment La Tierra del Encanto is a true jungle setting. Expect rain at times, humidity, insects, and natural sounds — especially in the evenings and at night. Most guests settle in quickly and come to appreciate the rhythms and atmosphere of the forest, finding it grounding rather than overwhelming. ⸻ 🦟 Insects & Screens All windows and doors are fully screened, and a mosquito net is provided for sleeping, though many guests do not find it necessary to use. As with any jungle environment, insects may occasionally make their way inside, especially after heavy rain. We provide effective, all-natural insect repellent, mosquito incense, and hands-on guidance so there’s no guessing involved. If something unwelcome does find its way inside, we’re nearby and happy to help remove it. Many guests arrive with concerns based on past experiences elsewhere and are surprised by how comfortable and manageable this environment feels with thoughtful preparation and support. ⸻ 👟 Footwear Footwear matters here. We provide mud and rain boots for guests to borrow, which are ideal for trails, rain, and muddy conditions. Any other shoes worn on the trails are likely to get dirty or damaged. For everyday wear around the property, simple plastic flip-flops or sandals that can get wet tend to work best. Guests are welcome to bring any footwear they prefer, but these options are the most practical in a jungle setting. ⸻ 👶 Families & Little Ones For guests traveling with a baby, we provide a Pack ’n Play. Please let us know in advance if you’d like it set up for your stay. ⸻ ⚡ Energy & Water Use The property is powered by solar energy and rainwater catchment. While systems are reliable, we ask guests to be mindful of energy and water use as part of living lightly and respectfully on the land. ⸻ 🌙 Sound & Atmosphere Sound carries easily in the jungle, especially at night. We aim to keep the property peaceful so all guests can enjoy the natural surroundings, the nighttime chorus of the forest, and the deep quiet that follows.
