(Ask about special 2 night stay rates , 1 or 2 people) The space These rooms each have a single bed but if two people visiting together wish to make a booking, a reduced rate will be offered. ‘The Flag House’ is a townhouse in central Birr, yet has a country home atmosphere. No televisions but many books on a wide variety of topics, from the arts to travel; nature to architecture: local to world histories, and more! The enticements are to relax peacefully, sketch, write, compose. Open fire in the drawing room, & some board games & playing cards as well as the family piano for playing. Guest access Guest wing and drawing room. (Courtyard garden on request). During your stay This host welcomes everyone personally, and offers a welcoming drink with toasted nuts. Chats - occasional but not too much, so guests can find their ease and peace! Host happy to offer suggestions for what and where to visit in the area - from walks to ancient sites, gardens etc. NOTE: For those needing office time, we are 1 minute's walk from Birr's Connected Hub. (Bookable online, this attractive, professional office space in a restored mill beside the River Camcor, is one of many hubs across Ireland). Other things to note Brendan House / ‘The Flag House’ is just off Market Square and so a minute's walk to assorted cafés, excellent and varied retail businesses: clothes and gift shops, hairdressers & barbers, beauty salons and more. Half a minute to one of the best Indian Restaurant's in Ireland (Sanjay's) and about three or four minutes walk to Birr Castle Demesne - the renowned gardens and historic science centre. Also under 10 minutes walk to the leisure centre - pool and gym, as well as being near both hotels. The fascinating FAN town trail, (The Famous & Notables of Birr) has been created by two local artists, in collaboration with the Birr Chapter of The Irish Georgian Society, and subsequently their symbiotic poetry trail with Anam Beo (A Town Reads Mitchell) are now linked on the fan trail website. We hope these, and the newly opened up river and woodland walk, are all encouraging visitors to linger longer, in full enjoyment of this beautiful heritage town.
