Other things to note The "Courtyards" are located in the beautiful valley of Melana, in the "Village of the Crown". The name of the village is associated with the existence of the medieval Tower of Sanoudes (13th AD), which is visible from the accommodation, Kourounochori, as it is called today, is located ten minutes from Chora and twenty minutes from the most beautiful beaches of the island. On the opposite side of the valley is the village of Agioi Apostoli. In the area there are remarkable monuments and historical sites, easily accessible to the visitor. These can be reached by means of transport or simply by following the traditional paths, which run parallel to the streams that irrigate the area for millennia from the nearby spring of Flerios. Within walking distance is the archaic oversized Kouros, lying for centuries in the orchards, among the ancient quarries of the area. A little further up is a second Kouros, the Sanctuary of the Springs and the Tunnel, a preserved part of the ancient aqueduct that supplied Chora with water. An important monument of the area is the Byzantine chapel of St. George, which has been operating as a Christian church since the 12th century. Inside, frescoes of Roman baths from the ancient use of the temple in the 3rd-4th century AD are preserved to this day. Exploring the cobbled streets of the area, the visitor can reach Kalamitsia, the summer resort of the Jesuit Order, meet the old olive mills and visit the holiday home of the Ursuline School. The old village school now operates as a cultural center and hosts various activities and exhibitions. It also houses a small museum with findings from the area. Kournochori, with its unique atmosphere and the preservation of its traditional elements, offers a glimpse into the history and culture of Naxos. It is a lively village that retains its authenticity, inviting visitors to discover its history and beauty. Registration details 1354132
