Location Details: Our property is located in a local residential area on Playa Juanito Mora road in the Canaza area along route 245, the main road through the Osa Peninsula. Canaza is roughly equal distance between La Palma to the north and Puerto Jimenez to the south, a 10-12 minute drive by car from our place in either direction. If you're coming from either the north (La Palma) or from the south (Puerto Jimenez), you’ll see the Playa Juanito Mora sign in the Canaza area, near Mini Super Daniel, a local convenience store, across the road from Panederia DeliOsa, a local bakery. At Mini Super Daniel, take the adjacent gravel road that runs north-east towards Golfo Dulce. Please note that side roads of the main highway in the Osa can be difficult to navigate, many requiring 4WD. Playa Juanito Mora road is bumpy, but manageable without a 4WD vehicle. About a quarter mile on the left along the gravel road is the gate to our property. Golfo Dulce: The rugged, wild shores of Gulfo Dulce lie less than a kilometer (half mile) beyond our property at the end of Playa Juanito Mora road. There is no formal parking at the water, nor concessions of any type. Park wherever is available among the trees at the shoreline. It's safe at this location, no concerns. More populated on weekends, normally few people during the week. As Golfo Dulce is a protected bay, the water is generally quite calm, and is warm year round. Playa Blanca, near La Palma to the north, is another option for accessing Golfo Dulce. Playa Blanca has the advantage of several restaurants nearby. Dolphins have been spotted at this beach. Transport: Although it is best to have a car for our location, it can be managed on foot. Regular bus service connects the area to La Palma and Playa Blanca (to the north), and Puerto Jimenez and Golfito (to the south). A bus stop is located at the intersection of Route 245 and the gravel road (Playa Juanito Mora) leading to our property, across from Pulperia Daniel. Return bus service from PJ towards La Palma is scheduled at 12pm, 3pm. 4.30pm and 6pm daily. Private taxi service is available. Local taxi's in the form of private cars can at times be found at the bus stop, or in Puerto Jimemez near the court house. Please check with us as we have taxi contacts. Puerto Jiménez has a small regional airport with daily flights to and from San José, Costa Rica, operated by Sansa. Airport pickup and drop-off is an option that can be coordinated with the proprietor. Groceries/Banks/Restaurants/Etc.: At the corner near us is a well-stocked convenience store, known locally as a pulpería, Pulpería Daniel in this case. Next door to the pulpería is a hardware store and a bar/restaurant, and directly across the road, near the bus stop, is a bakery. For more extensive amenities, such as banks with ATMs (the only ones in the area), a larger grocery store, gas station, pharmacies, airport, Golfito water taxi, and restaurant options, you’ll need to travel into Puerto Jiménez. Tours and guides for Corcovado National Park are available in Puerto Jiménez. Across the Gulfo Dulce, you'll find the small town of Golfito, which can be accessed via regular water taxi services from both Puerto Jiménez and Golfito docks. We can provide schedule details for the water taxis. Dining Options: Dining options near Casa Ruth are limited, but you’ll find a small soda (local eatery) located on the right along route 245 heading towards Puerto Jiménez. For more variety, La Cuna del Golfo, a full-service restaurant, is located at the very end of La Cuna road on the left heading towards Puerto Jimemnez. Look for signs at the intersection of Route 245 and Calle La Cuna road. This area restaurant is recommended. Additional dining options can be found further afield in both the La Palma and Playa Blanca areas to the north, with more to offer in Puerto Jiménez to the south. We're happy to provide additional details on options.
