A log house in the forest, located in Haramura and the foothills of the Yatsugatake mountain range. The space Squirrel House is a log house in the forest at 1,180 m altitude built with 100% Swedish timber. It is a place where you can enjoy a relaxing time in nature. [Vegan] We are a vegan accommodation, run by vegan owners. Guests don't have to be vegan, however, we do request that animal products such as meat, seafood and eggs not be cooked using the grill/oven/toaster/pots/pans/cutting board. [Eco-friendly] - Electricity is generated from 100% renewable energy - All bed linen are made from organic and recycled material - Soap and detergents are vegan and biodegradable [Safety] - Built with standards that are more than twice as strict as Japan's building standards - Highest earthquake resistance rating of "earthquake resistance grade 3" - High-quality house with excellent fire resistance - Curtains are made of fire and flame retardant fabric - Gas leak detector installed [Vegan food and products] We have an online shop, selling simple, easy-to-prepare vegan food (curries, noodles, cereals, soy milk, etc.) for our guests to purchase. risu-no-ie(dot)jp [Amenities] Please bring your own face and bath towels as we do not provide them for hygienic reasons. [Non-smoking] No smoking on the property (including inside and outside). [Accommodation Tax] Nagano Prefecture introduced an accommodation tax starting June 2026 (200 yen per person per night). Even if your reservation was made prior to June 2026, if your stay begins on or after June 2026, we will be collecting the accommodation tax in cash at check-in. We appreciate your understanding. [Heating] Cold season (Nov-Apr) pricing includes additional 500 JPY charge per night to cover for the oil heater. Guest access Guests will have access to the entire house. Other things to note As Squirrel House is situated in the middle of the forest, during summer you may find a single insect in the house even with doors and windows closed. We ask guests be respectful of the small lives and put them in a container we provide and gently take them outside. If you are afraid of insects, Squirrel House may not be a place for your stay. On the plus side, you may encounter wildlife such as deer, tanuki, foxes, rabbits, and of course squirrels; additionally hawks flying overhead and owls at dusk.
