Barlow Haus is a charming, rustic cabin built in 1957, lovingly restored and updated. We fell in love with its location—nestled on two acres, surrounded by 360 degrees of trees. During the rainy months, a stream flows through the property, adding the peaceful sound of running water. The Sandy River is just across the street, and a great public beach access point for both kids and adults is only a few minutes away. It features high-end SMEG and KitchenAid appliances, as well as a vintage Hartland stove/oven—a charming, cottage-like centerpiece in the kitchen. The living room is surrounded by French window panes, allowing natural light to flood the space. There are no interior cameras, and none face the hot tub. Camera locations include: the front door, two on the sides of the house, one above the sauna, and one above the back deck capturing the driveway. Cameras are not actively monitored and are only reviewed in the event of a security or emergency concern. Guest privacy is a priority, and the home remains a peaceful, private, and relaxing place to enjoy your stay. RECEPTION: Cell service is challenging on the property, so please use GPS before turning off the highway onto Brightwood loop. Once you arrive at the house feel free to connect to WiFi and enable WiFi calling on your phone to make calls and send messages. SEPTIC: We are on a rural property that uses well water and a septic tank for wastewater. To maintain the system, please follow these guidelines: Only flush toilet paper down the toilet. Dispose of grease in the designated container in the kitchen. To protect the bacteria in the septic tank, we only provide natural cleaning products (no bleach). NO SMOKING POLICY: This property is strictly non-smoking. If evidence of smoking is found, a $500 fine will be charged to cover the costs of cleaning and restoring the home. WINTER WEATHER ADVISORY: Please note that winter storms and high winds can create power outages at the cabin. Usually, these outages are short, and we have a kit prepared for our guests' comfort in case of such an event. In the event you lose power, we will be notified. If it does not resolve in a timely manner and a storm is approaching we will ask you to leave the home and refund you the nights you were not able to stay. DECOMMISSIONED FIREPLACE: Our stone fireplace is currently decommissioned and unsafe for use due to expensive repairs (we hope to restore it for guests in the future). In the meantime, we’ve installed central heating and cooling for your comfort. You're welcome to light the candles provided inside the fireplace for ambiance, but you may not use it for fires. We don’t allow candles in the house other than what we provide you in the fireplace. The wood stove is also locked. OTHER THINGS TO NOTE: -Since our home was built in 1957, it retains the original charm, but please note that not all aspects are up to modern-day building standards. It’s a rustic cabin - which is why we love it! - If anyone in your party has a disability or is elderly and prefers to sleep on the same floor as the bathroom, we have a pull-out sofa available for use. - We do not allow the use of Purple Shampoo for color-treated hair, as it will permanently stain the Carrara marble shower. Please use the septic-safe soaps provided. - The sauna is heated by a wood-burning stove and is detached from the house. Please note that it does not have wired electricity, but we do provide lanterns for lighting. The outdoor shower outside of the sauna is also out of order. - We are located in a national forest and expect guests to follow government regulations such as fire bans. We'll communicate with guests accordingly. We ask that guests not use the wood-burning sauna or outdoor fire pits during burn bans. Please always use both with caution and respect. You can expect burn bans to go into effect roughly July 1st - October 1st (please note this is an estimation based on when they went into effect last year. It could be earlier or later). - We’ve created digital guidebooks to help plan your stay. One guidebook covers local activities (hiking, skiing, swimming, etc.), and the other highlights nearby restaurants - so you don’t have to do the planning yourself! You’ll receive this guide at check-in! - The home is small a peaceful retreat , not suitable for extra guests (max 6 individuals), parties, elopement’s, weddings, photo shoots, or retreats. Please be honest about the number of guests and notify us in advance if you plan to invite others. We are excited to host you! STR Registration ID: 1021-24
